Question about Garden

1 Answer

My compressor was working great yesterday. I shut the unit down and drained the air in the tank like I always do. I went to use it today and I plugged it in and went to turn it on and it won't. Checked the wall outlet. Took the cover off and checked the wire connections, ground. I don't see a reset switch. Never once had a problem with it.

Could be the automatic pressure switch isn't working. Maybe the contacts are worn out, or just slipped out of alignment?

If not that, then I would suspect perhaps a bad start capacitor on the motor? Does it make any sound at all when you turn it on? Even just a little hum?

My automatic tank drain leaks air

The unit could have trash in the valve not allowing it to seat. Relief air and clean. If the unit blows air out for a couple of seconds after the unit shuts down that is normal. That is how the pneumatic valve works.

The condensation tank is filling and causing the unit to shut down every two hours. The internal pump that sprays water (from the collection tank to the exhaust vent) is apparently not working. Will this...

Shut it down until you get the drain working again. That spray is what helps save you a few buck on your Cooling bill. Let that excess water get in your house then maybe kiss your pocket book goodbye

I have a porter cale C5101 compressor. It hesitate to auto start when the pressure is low, always trip my circuit breaker.

What amp breaker do you have this hooked to. I would use no less than 15 amp ,preferrably a 20 amp. Next do you drain tank after use on a regular basis. If you don't moisture can build up inside tank and cause hard starting on automatic. If you need to drain tank there should be a drain valve on bottom of tank. try turning it counterclocwise with compressor off. If it dosen't turn that way try clockwise, air and moisture should drain. If you have alot of water in tank then shut valve and turn compressor on and bring to full pressure, then repeat draining procedure until no more water comes out. Hope this helps. Thank you

IR SS5L5 Won't reach shut off pressure

It sounds as though your unloader valve is stuck or broken. I would try and repair it but otherwise you will have to bite the bullet and get a new switch assembly I think. As you have just been working on the tank it might just be a bit of debris dislodged and stuck in the unloader valve. The unloader should only hiss just after switch off weather by automatic shut off or by manual shut down.

My unit has been running great up till now. Just

Check compressor for high current consumption.Check capacitors. Check fan speed.

If fan speed is low compressor will over heat and trip safety circuit in the compressor. If there are independent fans check both of them.

We used it yesterday and it worked fine. Today it won't kick on to build up pressure.

YOU ARE MOST LIKELY LOSING AIR SOMEWHERE. CHECK THE SMALL LINE FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD TO THE CHECK VALVE ON THE TANK.
ALSO THERE IS A TANK DRAIN ON THE BOTTOM THAT MAY HAVE BEEN ACCIDENTLY OPENED.

Should air compressor tanks be drained daily and if so why should they not be left under pressure from day to day? Will the air under pressure in the tank cause additional water vapor to accumulate?

No additional moisture will accumulate over time. Some existing moisture may condense as the unit cools down, though. If you drain off the water at the end of the day, I see no good reason to completely drain the air.

When tank is low on pressure, the motor cuts in but compressor struggles to turn and trips.

some compressors require an air release that drains the pump head when the compressor reaches full pressure if this is not working the compressor tries to start with full pressure on the pistons which is hard on the motor. If you always heard a small release of air when the compressor shut off yours probably had this feature. drain all the air out and if it starts fine that may be where the problem is. If its one of the smaller oiless ones the motor start capacitor is probably bad

Compressor will not refill itself with air during use

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE PRESSURE SWITCH ISNT WORKING CORRECTLY. IT SHOULD CUT IT OFF AT DESIRED PRESSURE AND RESTART IT AT CUT IN PRESSURE. YOUR BOG DOWN PROBLEM ON RESTART IS PROBABLY DROPCORD TOO SMALL OR THE COMPRESSOR IS NOT UNLOADING WHEN IT SHUTS OFF WHICH IS ALSO CONTROLLED BY THE PRESSURE SWITCH. WHEN YOUR COMPRESSOR SHUTS DOWN YOU SHOULD HEAR A HISS FOR A FEW SECONDS. THE SWITCH IS DRAINING THE AIR FROM THE TOP OF THE PISTON SO IT DOESNT START UNDER A LOAD THE NEXT TIME. HOPE THIS HELPS. Gas air compressor shuts down

IS IT BUILDING TO THE UNLOAD PRESSURE AND THEN STALLING OR JUST SHUTTING DOWN ANYTIME. IS THE UNIT SITTING AT AN ANGLE?

DOES IT WORK FINE WITH THE LOW OIL SWITCH UNPLUGGED? UNPLUG SWITCH AND LEAVE IT UNPLUGGED FOREVER.THEY'RE ALL P.O.S.
