Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

We understand that your problem is: Hello, My Rheem Heater (Classic Series, Super Quiet 80) only heats my house intermitently. There are times that the heater will not turn on no matter what the thermostat is set at, unless I turn it off and back on at the thermostat and then it will work only for a moment at a time, and times when, out of the blue, the heater will work as intended, heating the house to the set temp. I just replaced the thermostat and the same problem continues. Can you help me correct this problem? Thank you, Jeremy Daniels, Yuma, AZ.

Been a heating and air guy for over 18 years and this could be several things... is this gas unit? i'm thinking the classic series was gas... anyway if so could be a flame sensor problem at the actually unit .. if this is a electric heater there are relays that bring the heating elements on and most of the time stage them in to avoid an electric surge all at once... you could have a problem with one of your fan sequencers and or part of heat actually be burned out.... good luck ... post more info if you need some more help be glad to assist you... acheatingunlimited texas

I have a Rheem Classic Super Quiet 80 gas furnace (for heat). The fan stops when the "heat" turns on.

Any time I ever had trouble, first thing to suspect is the thermostat.
They lose contact sometimes and sometimes you tap the face and they work til next glitch.
If the thermostat has some years on it,go ahead and replace it.
Can't you just leave the heat and fan in auto? That would be best,I think. don-ohio

Hello, check the flame sensor, this is a metal rod on the opposite side of the igniter. Turn off power to the furnace remove flame sensor and clean it up with some steel wool, then reinstall and turn power back on to the furnace.

I have a rheem classic series super quiet 80 furnace. when the panel that covers up the control board is removed is there a reset button or sequence that mut be performed so the system will once again run.

Hi,
no just repalce all the covers and then cycle to power to the unit and it should take off and go...be aware that the t-stat could take five minutes or so to recycle and star the unit also..

The blower fan comes on several minutes before the

Bad fan switch. It may also be called a fan limit switch. If your furnace is less than 5 years old, the switch is part of the circuit board and you will need to replace the board.

How can I adjust the time a rheem furnace Classic quiet 80runs?

Turn the thermostat down. If it's a mercury bulb stat, they are very inacurate and have a wide temp swing.

You could also just replace the thermostat with a good honeywell or white rodgers digital stat and get more accuracy, comfort and efficiency out of your unit.
