Question about Toshiba Satellite L305-S5921 Notebook

1 Answer

My wireless connection suddenly stopped working and the computer reports the wireless switch is off, but I can't get it to turn on again. Using FnF8 doesn't work and in Windows Mobility screen, the "Turn Wireless On" button is grayed out. Device manager reports the wireless adapter is working properly. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device, but no luck. I can connect wirelessly using other laptops, so it's the computer, not my router. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: Wireless network adapter won't turn on

Hi there.
It sounds to me that the Atheros wireless card may have gone bad, in some cases this does happen.
Check in the bios to make sure that the wireless adapter is enabled, apart from that i cannot suggest anything else as you have just about troubleshot everything a PC technician would do before coming to the conclusion that its the hardware which is at fault.
If the machine is still under warranty then please take advantage of that, if not then a reputable PC repair shop will be able to fit a new card in the laptop and they will make sure it works before it comes back to you.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

All these are for Windows 7 32 bit platform (s)

If you've already installed some or part of the above drivers, please uninstall them (installed drivers), restart your computer and install all these.

My Genius Traveler 6000x wireless mouse suddenly stopped working

Double check the batteries, although the lights work and the computer sees it, the voltage could drop low enough to stop the sensors.

next, try another USB device in that plug. USB port can go bad.

If the port works, it could be the wireless USB connector starting to fail, if they are bumped to hard sideways it can cause loose connections internally.

then, you might just need to update drivers. Computer update s can conflict with drivers cause devices toss top working.

Can not turn wireless

Normally in IBM laptops there is a switch to turn ON the wireless, but if that's not turning it ON then you may check it in the control panel.

Depending upon the operating system you have, click on following things
Start
control panel
network connecitons(XP) or network & sharing connection (Vista/Win7)
then make sure that the wireless adapter is Enabled
Right click and enable it.
then try to connect to the wireless n/w again

in case the following steps does not help, reply back with some more information about the issue.
How it stopped working
when was the last time it was working fine
did you installed anything in the computer before it stopped working?
is there any switch on the laptop for Wi-Fi connectivity.
which operating system are you using

You may also log on to HNetworking.com in case you want some tech to take the remote access of your computer and help you with the wireless connectivity issue.

I have a hp pavilion dv7-2277cl laptop (64 bit) and a hp laserjet 2605dn. suddenly the communication between the two has gone missing. This is a wireless network and worked until last week. I have down...

The one that is missing in the network is the printer. So try to reconfigure the IP of the printer again using the wireless wizard in the printer manager. Or go to Using the HP Network Diagnostic Utility in Windows - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Also ; Very seldom does the printer itself cause problems. To determine if you have printer trouble, do the following:
  • If you're using a wireless connection, see if the wireless indicator lamp is illuminated? Can you turn on the wireless radio from the control panel of the printer?
  • Print a Network Configuration page and a Wireless Network Test report from your printer's control panel, if available.
    • Does the Wireless Network Test report indicate trouble?
    • Does the report indicate that the printer is connected to your wireless router, and not to a neighbor's? The network name the printer is connected to will be shown on the both the Network Configuration page and Wireless Network Test report.
    • Compare the printer's IP address [X]
      IP address
An IP address is a series of numbers by which computers, printers and other devices on a network are known. An IP address is usually issued by the local wireless router (network) from its DHCP service. A device is given an IP address that is similar to the wireless router's IP address. For example, if the wireless router's IP address is 192.168.1.1, a printer may be given an IP address of 192.168.1.5. to the gateway IP address [X]
      Gateway IP address
This is the IP address of your wireless router. . They should have a similar format (for example, the gateway IP address might be 192.168.0.1 and the printer IP address 192.168.0.5). If the printer has an IP address similar to 169.254.XXX.XXX, it probably is not connected to your wireless network.
    • On some printers, the Network Configuration page will list all wireless networks detected in your area. Is your network listed among those found? Does it have good signal strength?
    • Are there several wireless networks on your same channel or using channels close to your channel? You should use a channel at least 5 channels away from the closest used channel. Consider changing your wireless router's channel to 1, 6 or 11.
  • Are there any error messages on the printer or unexpected blinking lights (consult your manual to determine what to expect)?
  • Reset your printer (usually by removing the power cord from the back of the printer, waiting 30 seconds and then reconnecting the cord. Consult your manual for specifics).
  • Restart your wireless router [X]
    Wireless router
A wireless router is networking hardware that allows both wired and wireless devices to connect to a network. When connected to a wireless router, devices such as computers, printers, and other Wi-Fi enabled electronics can share one Internet connection AND connect to each other. Connections can be made to the wireless router through a wireless connection or a wired connection using an Ethernet cable. by unplugging the power cord, waiting 60 seconds, then reconnecting the cord to the wireless router.
