The beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram,all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk, and remains active untill turned off.
make sure that your RAM is securely seated
try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
hope this helps

Hello the homepage is here:

3 short beeps: base 64 k ram failure.

If you've recently added or tried to add additional memory to the computer and have started getting these beeps. Remove all new memory you've added to the computer. If the computer works fine after removing the new memory you're encountering either an incompatibility or defective new memory.

The fault could also be: power supply, or bad capacitors on the mainboard.

Good luck

you may have to find a manual for your motherboard, which could be difficult if you dont know what kind it is. somewhere on the mnotherboard is a connection for a speaker. the motherboard speaker, which is probbably noit installed, is supposed to give out "beep codes" when you have fatal or serious errors related to booting. if you can get ahold of a cheap little speaker and figgure out how to hook it up to the motherboard, you will get a series of beeps,. once you have the beeps, you need to go to the motherboard manufacturer's website to decipher the beep code.

without the beep code, i can still confidently say-

the problem is prolly your video card or ram, and you ve already checked the ram. if you have an integrated video card, you might be able to disable the integrated card in bios and install a new video card, or you may have to get a new motherboard.

If you placed the same processor in the new motherboard then it would appear that the problem is following the old processor.

One common mistake with p4 cpus is the 2nd power supply to the motherboard. Make sure you have plugged it in. Its a small connector that is only required for pentium 4.

If not the above, you could check the bios settings for processor clock speed to make sure that you're not overclocking by too much. Also check the heatsink/fan. A processor will fail very quickly with inadequate cooling. If everything seems ok but still getting 5 beeps, try a new cpu or memory.

The beep codes are not universal, but there are a few popular BIOS's and you can figure out what 2 beeps means if you can find your BIOS listed here:

http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

The name of your BIOS should appear on the monitor as you're booting.
