If this is a new memory card it's possible that the switch on the side of the SD card was pushed back when removing from the packaging the little switch needs to be slide forward to the top of the card towards the gold contacts I'm including a diagram. Also the memory card will need to be formatted to your camera to insure optimum performance and no card error issues. Formatting should be outlined in your camera manual under set up

SD Card Problems with Vivitar Vivicam 5118!

What size is the memory card. If it's larger than 4GB then it won't work in the 5118.
Try using another card. Don't format it in your computer but do format it in the camera before trying to take pictures.

Card locked

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

You didn't specify the make and model of your camera, so I'm going to assume it uses SD cards.

When camera is turned on "PROTECTED CARD" comes

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

My Sony Cyber-Shot camera keeps showing "access" and won't go away. I've taken about 20 photos that show up on the camera, but when I try to download them on to my computer, it says "no...

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

After downloading the pictures to your computer, place the memory card back into the camera and format it.
