Iomega portable Drive LPHD160U

This drive when connected to my PC will work for a few minutes and then drop out. If I leave it connected it often comes back and remains working again for a few minutes, but will not stay connected to allow me to load and download files.
Can you help ? My system is XP and I have no problem using flash drives with my PC just this portable drive.
My email address is cyril.halstead@care4free.net My telephone 020 8363 7867. Since buying this drive I have been unable to us it with my PC

The same problem I have with the 160GB one.
It is a shame for that product. I saved files on it and since summer 2008, I can't access my files. On IOMEGA websearch, the drive was not found.

According to the Iomega Support web site you do not need additional drivers for using your Iomega eGo drive with Windows 7 unless you have a USB 3.0 device.

If you remove the drive and connect it to a pc using the sata cables it could work if you only damaged the controler.

In my experience it is more likely the drive itself is damaged. If this happens and the read/write head or the magnetic store is physically damagedthe only way is to ask a data recovery company. The good news is that recovering a single drive is relatively cheap......

Hi, I was given an Iomega portable hard drive but I don't know how to get started using it. Can you give me a brief introduction on what to do? Thanks, Bev Brink

All that you should have to so is plug it up to your computer with the USB cable. Somewhere between a few seconds and a minute (for the first time), it will pop up under my computer. So double click on "My Computer" and you should see it listed as one of the drives. You might actually see a picture of the drive! I hope this helps!

Have you tried connecting it with the Firewire cable that came with it? (your pc may not have the correct port) or connecting it with a different usb cable?
Has the drive been dropped? it has a protection system which shuts the drive down when it is dropped. you may need to put the HDD into a different caddy or plug it directly into a desktop pc's motherboard to retrieve you data.
I hope this helps.

Does the Iomega show up under 'my computer'?
It should be another drive (D, E, F whatever) and as such you put stuff on to it the same way you would put stuff on to your C drive.
