On the security enabled network you need the pass phrase associated with the secured network and its configuration(WEP, WAP, ect...). If you are authorized to use this account contact the system administrator and he/she will give you pass phrase and configuration info needed to configure your network connection. If you are not authorized to be on that system and the are using WEP there is a program called net stumbler that captures several thousand packets and analyzes them using an ingenious algorithym and discerns the passphrase needed to gain access to the protected network in a couple of minutes. Net stumbler is also a great tool for the hobby war driving. This is a game where people drive around looking for internet hotspots and logging there location and getting in. It's more of a status thing than a criminal thing. It is illegal to access soomeone's network even if it is left open with no protection, believe it or not. I just read a story about a kid in England getting arrested sitting on a public bench accessing a womans wireless service from her flat accross the street. An officer aproached him and noticed he was online. Even thought the woman had left her wireless router wide open the kid was charged with theft of service. You have to be careful because networks log all connections and personally identifyable information about all computers that log onto a network. I hope you found this informative. Please take the time to rate it for me.

Do you have the pass phrase needed to log on to the secured network? You need this! I'm not quite sure why you are trying to use the secured network when the other unsecured network allows you on, Is it faster?. If you need my help send me an E-mail to geokohler@gmail.com I can definitely help you get connected with or with out the pass phrase. I have a Deans List BA in Computer Science and 25 years in the field. If you send an E-mail I will send you the number that dials directly into my laptops which are on nearly 24/7. If for some rare reason Leave a message and a time to call and I'll call you with my yahoo phone out. It's only 1 cent a minute. If you have yahoo messenger and a microphone you can call my computers for free geokohler007 is my user name for yahoo, just hit the call computer button.

When my wireless network is unsecured I can connect fine and browse the internet fine, but the moment I try to set up security I get a "limited or no connectivity" message from my wireless network. What's...

You must ensure that you have enabled the router as a DHCP server and the client PC network connection is set up to "obtain an IP address automatically". If the computer is not obtaining a valid IP address from the DHCP server (i.e. the router) you will get the limited or no connectivity error. You can easily check to see if you have a good IP address by opening a CMD prompt window and running ipconfig.exe. Generally, the WBR-1310 will have assigned an IP address like 192.168.0.xxx. If you have an IP address like 169.254.xxx.xxx you router is not assigning your computer a valid IP address. Powering down the PC and/or the router will usually fix this, but not always. There are other, more compliated, steps that can resolve the problem if the above steps do not work.

The unsecure public network nay be using mac address filtering. In this case, the network will show as being unsecured, and will even allow you to connect in some cases, but then will not allow you to surf once connected.

Can not find a non secure signal

hi..
sadly to say but there are no default key codes, its usually setup by the person who has setup the wireless networks, people are becoming more and more aware of the consequences of unsecured networks so most of them are securing the wireless networks, you can try connecting your laptop wirelessly to hotspot areas like airport, cafe and other places..incase if you want wireless internet from home and if you have mobile connection from verizon or sprint then you can get in touch with them and get wireless mobile broadband which will be your own wireless network and you donot have to depend upon someone elses unsecured network and the advantage of this type of wireless card is you can use the internet outside the home as well as when you are travelling...

Passphrase

ok....
it seems that you are tring to connect to someone elses secured network which means you will not be able to connect to this wireless network as it has security enabled in it and the passphrase is know to the person who has setup this network....what i can suggest is that you can try connecting to unsecured networks if it is available...if there is no networks unsecured networks available then you will not be able to connect to the internet wirelessly..
