Adding ram is very easy. here is a picture of a motherboard, the ram slots are next to the cpu (which is covered by the big fan).

your pc uses 333/400mhz DDR ram (pc2700-pc3200), up to 4 gigs. since this is single-channel, you dont have to worry about matching ram sticks to one another- any combination of ram amounts will do.

It's easy - press the "Easy Button" from Staples. They'll determine which ones you need.

Click of death

The "click of death" as you put it, together with the other symptoms would usually indicate a failed hard drive. But try the Ram first, it may save you a lot of money. Hard drives are expensive at the moment and then you need to carry out a complete install of your operating system. Remove the Ram sticks one at a time if you have more than one, and try to start after each removal. If you only have one stick buy (or borrow) another and upgrade. Good luck.

My flash drive won't allow me to add or upload anything

Sounds like you're trying to save to the wrong part of the flash drive. Cruzers add two new drives to your PC, one is a CD-type drive with the software to run the other (RAM) drive. Check in My Computer to see which drive is which.

RAM / HDD upgrading

u need 1gb Ram in total it is more than enuff for u u will never feel short after this and sure it will boost performance , u have 512 mb

if u have 2 chips of 256mb each then u need to buy 512mb X 2 chips and ur old ram will be left with u , luckily if u have 1 chip of 512 mb in ur system then u will save money like only buy 1 chip of 512mb but pls check the whole ratings of ur RAM and make of RAM is it samsung or hynix chips or what bcoz u will have compatibility issue in matching ur old and new rams pls let me know of whole specs written on RAM i can help u in matching

if u need urgent boost in performance then i will suggest replacing hard disk u will see a big change in loading OS and opening programs RAM is secondary in this stuff , but it is imp u can also go for 756 mb in total if u dont want to waste money if u have 2 chips of 256 each

secondly go for 160/250 GB 7200 RPM drive for top performance but 5400 RPM is still fast in ur notebook it is like 4200rpm according too my expertise

pls rate me FIXYA for my analysis if u like

Hard Disk Problem

Sure , a bigger hard disk has a bigger access time.

If you have 512Mb RAM you can fix the problem by upgrading RAM, possibly to 2 GB.
