Question about Toshiba 52HM95 52" HDTV Projection Television

1 Answer

Periodically my 52HM95 would have some little electrical glitch where it would not come on when I turned the tv on. I would have to wait a little while before I tried again, or I could shut the power off to the tv and then try again after turning the power back on. In October my bulb went out (it was 2 yrs old) and I bought a replacement, which only lasted about 2-3 weeks before blowing again. I bought ANOTHER bulb which lasted about 2 weeks. I believe that it is the tv that is shorting the bulbs, rather than the bulbs just blowing on their own. At this point I am seriously considering buying a new tv, and am not willing to risk future problems with another Toshiba. The tv has been amazing, but the problems have been a constant throughout.

I have a similar DLP TV. If you losing your new bulbs that quickly there is likely a problem with cooling. There is a fan that keeps bulb cool. Make sure the fan is working and there is nothing blocking the air passages. I have not had a problem with my fan but you should be able to find a replacement at Radio Shack or a computer/electronics store like MicroCenter. They come in standard sizes just make sure the voltage is correct typically 120 VAC or 12 VDC.
I have had the computer inside crash such that the sound would work, the bulb would come on, put no picture. Fixed by unplugging the TV for one minute then plug in and turn on.
The bulb repeatedly goes through its startup cycle but never comes on. It tries about ten times then stops. Fixed by removing the bulb housing and firmly tapping it on a counter top ten times. This was at Toshiba instructions over the phone and it actually worked.

When i turn on my 52hm95 it has a checkerboard screen. Then it turns itself off and on until i turn it back off.

when this kind of things happen is mostly due to failure of the capacitors on the power supply board of the tv. I suggest you to open the tv and look for parts physically damaged but take a close look to see if you can find any bulging capacitors. if everything looks physically fine, then I suggest you to replace all the CAPS. they're really cheap online and you can probably get them at radio shaq. I'm pretty sure that for a few bucks you're gonna be very happy with "YOUR NEW TV" lol.

Reciever Not Recording

Turn off the receiver, unplug the receiver, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and go through the setup again. This hard restart clears the memory and restarts the DVR software(clears any software glitches) This should fix this problem assuming that your satellite signal is good. Check that during the resetup. Most transponders will show between 70 to 100 signal strength. (Minimum is 70 for error free reception) Several transponders will show 0 as they are dead on the satellite, and not a receiver problem) If your satellite signal is in the 70's or less, you either live in Maine or you may need to realign the dish or something is blocking the signal like a tree or bush growing that is partially blocking the signal causing the signal to drop out(partial recordings)
