If it turns on and you get a gray or blue screen with an Apple symbol and a rotating circle - your hard drive it shot and you need to get a new one.

My ibook g3 gives me this when i boot it up(just got it from eBay) and the cd drive doesn't open up

Probably last owner had experiment with installing windows on iBook something that apple does not support until now. You can solve this by buying a genuine copy of macintosh (should not be more than 10-20 bucks on ebay for this is a kinda old version not sure which one though) and reinstall it basically from the begining.

I would recommend booting from USB. Go to pendrivelinux.com and pick a distro. The utility is awesome and makes it easy to boot from usb. make sure that bootusb is an option in BIOS.
Good luck

I forgot my administrator password for my mac g3

If you are running OS X put the appropriate system disk in the disk drive. Boot up using the c key. Once booted go up to the file menu and go to the reset password menu and reset your password.

Fix my ibook g3, the screen only has a ?

This could potentially be a sign of a failing hard drive. Easiest way to find out would be to find your original installation disks, and inserting Disk 1 into the computer, and rebooting while holding down the C key on your keyboard to boot to the disk (If you have your Apple Hardware Test CD, use this instead, and rather than holding the C key, hold the option key when turning it on and tell the corresponding boot selection menu to boot to the hardware test). If you use the OS disks, look in your menus for a program called Disk Utility, and try to look up information on the hard drive to see if there's any obvious signs of it failing. If not, then I would recommend trying to do an archive and install of your operating system (this will keep your personal files and folders intact), to see if this alleviates the issue. If not, then chances are good that your hard drive will need to be replaced.

G3 clamshell ibook

Your Hard Drive is not booting correctly and most likely it is damaged. There are chances however that the data is OK, but will definitely need to be taken out to fix it. The best thing is to get a new HD for your Mac and start all over with installing the OS. That is if all the other parts are OK.
