to check capacitor disconnect power to unit. remove wires coming from the capacitor making sure to note where they were connected. Using the ohms setting on your multimeter place one lead on each of the two post. Watch carefully and if the capacitor is good your meter will spike for a second then return to zero. IF nothing happens capacitor is bad. Good luck. Kevin

I would think you can. Most of the cooktops are 240v and the vents are 120v, so the vent may be feeding off of one of the cooktop's hot wires. My vent is fed from it's own receptacle but is harnessed along with the cooktop's 240v.

Ok the problem is the switch I just looked at the install manual and you only have 2 wires to get it to work. Once you replace the switch it will be working fine. you can get the switch on the link below.
