The solution you gave me has not for a DSLR camera. THe pentax K10D is a camera that you can change lenses. The problem is when you change the lens the shutter keeps close instead of open so you can see through the visor clearly.

The camera has tiny motors that drive most mechanics such as the functions of the lens, shutter, and other items. Each one runs off a separate capacitor which stores the correct voltage needed to run these motors. If one of these capacitors gets a hairline crack in the side the voltage leaks away. In other words not enough voltage can be stored in it to be a useful capacitor. You can check for an estimate for repairs through keh.com in Georgia which is a highly rated camera shop

It sounds like the shutter is stuck. This is along the lines of a lens error, and the following web blog describes things you can try to fix the problem:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
Check that all your settings are set to an automatic mode, also.
The first thing to try is to spray some compressed air into the lens assembly, while it's extended ($4 at Walmart). Second thing to try to to gently "bump" the camera on the palm of one hand, in the hope of freeing it up.
If none of these suggestions works, contact Pentax to see what it would cost to fix it. Here's their site:
http://www.pentaximaging.com/support/
You could also run it into a local camera repair shop, after seeing how much Pentax wants for servicing, and see what they would do it for. Second opinions never hurt.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Clean the contacts on the camera body and the lens where they connect with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

You are probably right - it sounds like it is not connecting right - I would take it and the camera to the store and check out another lens!

Err message on Nikon 75 after taking a picture

Here's a link to the N75 / F75 user guide. The troubleshooting section / lens compatibility area might point to the problem. If the viewfinder is dark, the mirror is likely stuck in the UP position. This is usually due to a lens compatibilty issue, or the fact that the lens is not set to its smallest aperture (ie 22). The camera needs that to control the full range of aperture openings

I BOUGHT A PENTAX K10D THAT CAME WITH A VERY NICE AUTO ZOOM LENS. I OWN SEVERAL OLDER PENTAX LENSES THAT I USED ON MY K1000 CAMERA AND I WANT TO USE THEM ON THE K10D. I CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE SETTINGS THAT...

Hello,

I don't own a K10D, but I do own a K100D which I have successfully used both manual focus & auto-focus lenses from my old Pentax stash!

1) If it is a manual focus lens, you need to turn off Autofocus on the body of your K10D. On my K100D, there is a switch on the side of the lens mount that says [-MF or -AF]. "-MF" is manual focus mode & "-AF" is autofocus mode. Since your lens doesn't have autofocus capability, turn it to the "-MF" mode.

Also . . . When I press "Menu" and go to "Custom Setting", I change two settings . . .

1) I change "Using aperture ring" to "Permitted". This allows you to use manual lenses (M lenses) that do not have an auto(exposure) setting, and also lets you use Auto lenses (A, KA, KA2, FA, etc.) in either the Auto or manual aperture setting modes.

2) I change "Fl with S lens used" so that even with a manual focus lens, although I don't have autofocus capability, my K100D beeps and shows a little red square in the viewfinder when I have successfully focused manually!

The K10D should have the same options.

This should get you up and running!

I have had a load of fun with my old lens on my new digital Pentax!

Take care & Happy Imaging!

SHUTTER HESITATION

May be the problem is with the lens. Put a maximum aperture say f 22 then press the shutter, if the leaves of the diaphragm shuts and opens fast ten your lens is OK
.If there is any oily appearance between the leaves of the diaphragm then it should be cleaned.

Pentax K10D won't work with lens from Pentax K100 (film0

The lenses are probably manual focus lenses,
  1. Make sure that the apature ring is set to 'A' or automatic,
  2. if these are manual focus lenses then switch the focus switch on the left side of the camera body to MF
  3. If this still doesn't work, or you are having trouble with the apature ring then press the menu button to go to the  menu then press the right arrow key untill you are in the  Custom Settings, scroll through the custom settings with the up and down arrow keys until about the 2nd from bottom there is an option called "using aperture ring" set this to 2 (Permitted) This will make the camera take a image when lens is on any f-stop manually.
Try this and everything should work fine. If all this hasn't worked then try seting the mode dial on the camera to M manual mode. Cheers

Adjusting the f stop

Lock the aperture in F 22. This will get rid of FEE. Now control the aperture settings from the body ( control infront of shutter release )
