Have found that even with self propel mowers-- the brake cable is worn and makes it hard if not impossible to start.

Mine does same. Wait a half hour, restart, runs good for 20 minutes and slows again. Just had it in for a tune up. Machine is only three years old.

My Toro did the same thing. I rigged it by removing the back cover (two bolts) and replacing the carb spring with a twist tie. I was sure not to have rev too high, be careful not to let it run while not in use. Keep it under load or turn it off. It actually throws the snow much farther than I expected. Also I think I blew out the muffler. I tried to get it fixed but no one had the answer, I think it's just poor design.

Toro CCR 2450 Snowblower has new plug & gas but will only start with added starter fluid then will run until trying to start again.

Question edited for clarity.

When you put it away at the end of last snow season, I expect you just rolled it to the corner of the garage and left it until now? The two stroke gas in the carburetor, went bad and gummy. It starts on starter fluid because no gas is coming from the carb.

Toro CCR 2450 snowblower won't start.

Try a short burst of starter fluid into the carburetor and promptly pull starter. If it runs for a couple seconds and quits then the carburetor is not delivering fuel.

If it doesnt run on starter fluid then either flooded, insufficient spark, or poor compression / crankcase leak.

Toro CCR 2450, Common starting problems? Fresh gas/oil mix. Good compression. Just pulls, no pops or sputters.

Next step would be to check the ignition module(coil),I have a lawnmower that uses the same 2 cycle engine. Check coil for spark by removing the spark plug from the block then connect the insulator side of the sparkplug back to the coil then ground the plug by touching the threaded side to the block away from the sparkplug hole while turning the engine over. Should see a spark, if not you'll need a new coil, not hard to replace. calls for Briggs & Stratton #80-1268 you can also use a Toro/Lawnboy coil #99-2911 or #99-2916 or #684049.

I have a toro ccr 2450 snowblower. i bought it

No if your belt is shredding there is something rubbing on the belt. Check the idler/tightner pulley see if it spins freely. Check make sure nothing but the pulleys are touching the belt when it is engaged.

38182 toro snowthrower will not start because i think i did not add oil to gas & ran engine for a while. what did i do? how do i fix? tried to start with holding in electric start button for several...

I USED TO WORK AT A HARDWARE STORE AND A LOT OF PEOPLE ALWAYS HAD TROUBLE WITH 2 CYCLE ANYTHINGS(GAS & OIL MIX).IF IT IS AN ELECTRIC START MAKE A FRESH MIX OF GAS AND OIL TO SPECS BUT USE A LITTLE MORE OIL THAN INSTRUCTED(THIS WILL NOT HURT THE ENGINE).ADD THE GAS AND OIL MIX TO TANK. PUT CHOKE TO FULL, PRIME IT 5 OR 6 TIMES PLUG IN THE ELECTRIC START AND PRESS THE BUTTON AND HOLD IT DOWN 'TIL YOU HEAR THE ENGINE START TO REVOLVE.THIS MAKE TAKE A FEW TIMES BUT IT WORKED FOR ME.YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BEING THAT THE ENGINE MAYBE SEIZED ANYWAY. GOOD LUCK !!
