Kathleen, you'll have to provide an accurate model number from the inside of your fridge for us to pull up any tech data on it. Open the door and look toward the ceiling of the fridge. But, from what you describe, it sounds like a thermister problem not a thermostat problem. A thermister is a small, temperature sensitive device that communicates with the computer to tell it what temperature its' location is at any given moment. The computer then adjusts air flow dampers, defrost cycles and cooling times accordingly. There can be many thermisters in any given refrigerator model line. These are inexpensive to purchase and easy to replace, but sometimes difficult to locate. They are usually hidden behind a small plastic shell, that looks completely unobtrusive. But they are easy to recognize for they have 2 white wires going into them that are tightly bonded together. To find them, you'll have to gut the fridge (food, shelves and all) and look closely. Focus your attention toward the area of the problem, the lower shelves/crispers. You may need to pull the rear panel out to find it, but when you do replace it. (UNPLUG YOUR FRIDGE FIRST!) Hope this gives you something to go on. If not, provide your full model number so we can assist further.

Your thermostat might be busted thats why you cant control the temperature. Also, check for the drain pan. if it is dry, then there might be some particles(I.e. soot, ice,) along the drain channel. Try to defrost the unit first and check for the drain pan. If water came out from it. restart your unit. if problem persisted, replace the thermostat. This shoul resolve the problem.
Response is highly appreciated.

There are vents that allow the cold air to flow from the freezer
to the fridge. If those vents become clogged with ice or fail
mechanically, they can become stuck open or closed. The temp adjustment
should move the damper in the vents. But if they are frozen open, then
the fridge will become too cold.
