Question about General Electric WBSR3140GWW Top Load Washer

1 Answer

We understand that your problem is: Thanks for the answer about how to remove the agitator. Maybe I'm not approaching it te right way. Every time I wash, there are little blobs of grayish-brown stuff stuck to the clothing. It is not greasy and it peels off easily, but it is annoying. It looks like bits of Kleenex, only dark. It looks like it's coming out of the agitator. I took the top dispenser off, took it apart and cleaned it. Then I got to the protective cap and tried to pry it off with a screwdriver through the four holes around the edge, but it is not coming off and I'm afraid I will damage it. There is a ring of dark stuff around the edge of the protective cap, inside the agitator. Should I just clean around the edge the best I can, or is there a better solution? Thanks!.

Most have 1 little screw that holds it to the shaft. its hard to see and is near the bottom just before the agitator flares out. its just a set screw.

Te code is showing up. how do i fix this

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

The te code means a defective thermistor. but thermistors rarely fail in LG washers.

The most likey cause of the "te" error is:

1) Loose wiring at the control panel (directly behind the CYCLE SELECTOR KNOB)
2) Broken wire at the THERMISTOR (located at the bottom /front of the tub)

Test the washer. If the "te" error still occurs--it will be neccesary to remove the FRONT PANEL as well (two sets of special plier-type tools are needed).

Inspect the THERMISTOR closely--with good lighting. If there's a break in the wire it will be at or near the black sheathing / heat shrink material.

How do I take the agitator apart to clean it?

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

you do not really take the agitator out to clean. but if you wish to remove it.

1. you will remove the top dispenser from the agitator, then you may see a protective cap or you will see a screw, remove cap and or screw.
2. then remove agitator, it maybe hard to remove.

The agitator seems to be stripped out - I need info on how to disassemble the agitator

Te newest ones are the easiest, a square hole can be unscrewed after removing the splash guard and belch dispenser.top Older models have a nut to remove. You must use an extension and socket for that. I have a nice video i found online: HERE
After I get the agitator out I set it on the floor and hold it down with my feet, I grab the top and yank it apart. I remove the old worn out agitation dogs and replace them with part number 80040 around $5 here. Line it all up and snap it back together without breaking the plastic locking tabs on the base of the agitator. While putting back the agitator take care not to make it come apart. This sounds hard but it is not. Anyone can do it.

WE have a Kenmore Elite three-spee, timed bleach

The following advice is for replacing the "Agitator Dogs" on Kenmore and Whirlpool TOP LOADER style washing machines. This simple repair can save you a fortune in repair costs as the replacement parts are very inexpensive at a cost of less than $10. The replacement kit part number is 80040. You can order on line at various appliance parts websites, or use this part number and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer.

What are "Agitator Dogs"? These are small plastic pieces (usually 4) that are located under the agitator center cap that grip the agitator and turn it during the wash cycle. They can (and do) wear out dependent upon the use of the washer. If you are in the habit of doing large load sizes frequently, or wash large items such blankets or afghans, this can wear the teeth off and reduce the life of the agitator dogs.

SYMPTOMS REQURING REPLACEMENT: The agitator fails to turn during the wash cycle, or will not turn with a heavy load. The timer will run normally through all cycles, and you will be able to hear the gearcase (transmission) engage and run. The washer will also drain normally. The only indication that something is wrong will be the agitator slipping or not turning at all. The result will be clothes that do not wash properly and will sit on the bottom of the wash tub.

To replace the Agitator Dogs, follow these steps:

1.Remove the agitator center cap by either pulling straight up or gently placing a flat blade screwdriver into a slot located in the cap.
2.If the agitator is equipped with an inner cap with a handle, remove this as well by pulling straight up.
3.Remove the center bolt of the agitator. You will have either a 7/16" hex bolt or a recessed square plastic nut. If you have the square recessed type, use a 3/8" to ½" ratchet adapter to remove.
4.Remove the agitator by grasping the bottom flange and carefully pulling straight up. Try to keep all the parts assembled while doing this, so do not pull too hard. This will make this repair much easier.
5.Place your hand over the top of the agitator and separate the upper portion of the agitator from the lower portion and turn the top half over in your hand. The agitator dog assembly will come out in your hand.
6.With the agitator dog assembly in your hand, lay the rest of the agitator aside. Pay careful attention to how the dogs are installed. Remove the worn dogs and reinstall new ones. It's that simple.
7.With all the dogs replaced and the assembly still in your hand, place the upper part of the agitator over the top of it, upside down, ensuring the inner assembly tabs align correctly.
8.Now keep your hand over the agitator top to hold all the pieces together and turn the entire assembly over (upright position).
9.Carefully align and reinsert the upper portion of the agitator to the lower portion. Again, making sure the two pieces align correctly.
10.Place the entire agitator assembly back on the gearcase shaft and reinstall center nut. NOTE: DO NOT over tighten the nut, or the agitator will not spin correctly. Just make the nut snug. Reinstall center cap and inner cap (if equipped).

These instructions should give you the basics on how to perform this repair. Since there are various agitator types in use by Whirlpool and Kenmore, assembly can vary.

Washer machine

Sorry for the late response. (Cold windy Sunday, and I was just browsing old posts and found yours) The tE error is thermistor error. It is a small sensor right by the heating element at the front bottom side of the outer tub which tells the control what the temperature of the water in the drum is. Part number 6322FR2046C and it is not very expensive. You have to clip a nylon wire tie to remove it, but it just unplugs and then pulls right out from a rubber holder. You might be able to access it by pulling the washer out from the wall about two feet and leaning the washer back to the wall, then looking up from under the washer. (the standard approach is to remove the washer front panel, but I think you should be able to do the change out a lot faster with the tip it approach) Good luck.
