SOURCE: no steam coming out and water tank not pumping water into generator to make steam

The Rowenta DG-980 Iron/Steam Generator works great from our experience (it is a consumer grade unit with commercial grade technology) and over 90% of the user reviews I have seen are happy with it, unfortunately it is a discontinued model & the newer replacement is not as good. Service seems to be rather thin, as is the case with most corporate entities; I was on the phone for 30 minutes before I was able to locate service center in Concord, CA (I am in SoCal), and is the only one in the state that does repairs on them, and I am going to check them out...stay tuned.

SOURCE: Taking a Rowenta DX1900 Apart

Not sure about your model, but newer irons have the screws hidden under snap-on covers. Look for a small cover that may have a slot where you can insert a small screwdriver and lightly pry. Chances are you'll leave marks. They are not made to take apart so there is also a chance you'll break the internal tabs that snap/hold it together. You may be able to super glue them back. There should be a removable coverplate at, or near each end.

The wire inside the cord is likely torn ant it connects and disconnects as it is moved back and forth. This happened to me too. I just need to find where to get a new cord.

Irons do not last they way they use to. You can get it repaired (check with Rowenta) or buy a new iron.

Must hold cord just so or iron will not heat up. Rowenta Professioal DM890, 1 year old.

There should be contact information with the instruction booklet so you can contact Rowenta for repairs.

The retailer is talking nonsense. Your contract is with them and under the sale of goods act if something breaksdown in the first six months the onus is on the retailer as it is deemed faulty, they should either offer to repair or replace last resort money back. Go back to them and tell them if they don't then you will contact trading standards as you have rights under the sale of goods act. If they don't listen call trading standards and they will sort it out for you. It won't cost you anything.

Iron No Longer Heats Up

Recommended solution, gently shake, did not work.

Considering the iron was at a minimum two years old, I decided to purchase another Rowenta. I found the recommended solution documented on a FAQ sheet enclosed with the new iron.

I actually own another Rowenta iron (I now have three) that has the same issue. I will send one iron, the one manufactured in Germany, to a Rowenta Service Center to see if can be repaired - it was the first Rowenta iron I purchased and it provided several good years of service.

CALCIUM BUILDUP COMING OUT OF THE STEAM HOLES...

Hi, the other two responders were correct, use clear or filtered drinking water only. Also, use your iron until it runs dry and use burst of steam or self cleaning function to clear out the last bits of water, being sure it is empty before putting it away. Several cycles of this using and purging process will clean the iron without chemicals. Standing water that evaporates is just like a tea kettle with water left in it, all the white mineral deposits settle to the bottom, and the water dissolves the mineral salts, and when dissimilar metals are wet (think of a an old flashlight battery and the corrosion that occurs if left in storage.
