Question about JVC HA-G55 Consumer Headphones

Open Question

I have old JVC headphones - model HA-D40. The audio still works well but the ear piece covers have deteriorated. Can you recommend a way to replace these ear pads. They are slightly oval and about 3 3/4 by just under 4" in dimension.

SOURCE: The headphones have stopped working

Andrewjdonne,

This is usually caused by a short in a wire. If you are brave, you can open up the headphones and find the wire that has shorted out and repair it. Usually this happens at the point where the headphones pivot. This may require the use of a soldering gun, or at least some new wire and electrical tape. Nothing you can't find at radioshack. Let me know if you need help opening the casing up to find the bad connection!

Jvc headphones retractable cord

The JVC HA-NC250s are a new version of their previous model 100, and JVC claims that they will cancel up to 85% of ambient noise, coupled with better sound. In this case, JVC claims up to 16.5 db reduction at 150 kHz. These on-the-ear headphones are very lightweight at 5.3 ounces and are extremely comfortable. The head band has a reasonable amount of sliding expansion for bigger heads, and the oblong ear pieces themselves rotate and fold flat for storage. JVC uses memory foam on the earpieces, as well as double housing, for extra noise isolation. The earpieces have 40 mm neodymium drivers, which are the same size and type that the Creative Aurvanas offer. The JVC HA-NC250 noise canceling headphones. Note the ear-cushion instruction tab that explains how to replace the hidden battery.

The NC250s come in a semi-rigid black case with a dual airline-plug adapter, a mini-to-RCA phono plug adapter and a 4' detachable headphone cord. JVC includes one AAA battery, which should last approximately 50 hours. A simple sliding switch on the right side turns the noise reduction on along with a small red LED. Learning how to add the battery to the headphones required that I study JVC's user manual. The process involves having to remove the earpiece covering to get to the battery compartment, which isn't at all obvious.

There is constant static in the left ear when the noise cancelling is turned on. The only way to solve this is to turn the noise cancelling feature off. Is there another solution?

these things are suppost to have a little static noise when on. next time get noise reduction headphones. they are like headphone style ear protection like what construction workers use. but only more stylish and they contain speakers. and no killing batteries for good sound. they are regular headphones but with really good sound isolation

My dog chewed on earphone and the sound is all crackly. Is it possible to get one fixed and what would it cost?

HI. If your dog chewed on the actual hardware and wire strands, this will not be repairable. The strands that carry the actual sound data stream have been compromised and separated from the main strand that runs through the ear piece. This type of trauma cannot be repaired, unfortunately. You will need to replace the entire ear piece set. I can understand that you want to repair and not replace, but this will be the only option in your case. You will need to replace the entire ear piece set or deal with that deteriorating sound quality.

I have had the bose in-ear headphones for a year and they were great at first and then all of a sudden the left earpiece stops working. If I move the part that connects the headphones to the ipod then it...

If your headphones are in warranty (under a year old) Bose will repair or more likely replace them with a new pair. I am now on my forth pair or Bose in-ear headphones and experienced the same problem with an ear piece stop working. I have to say Bose customer service has been fantastic and has replaced each pair. Every new pair is then covered by a new full years warranty. Unfortunately my fourth pair has just gone wrong with the same connector problem. Bose again have said they will replace as they are in warranty. I have been told if they are out of warranty they will offer a new pair at a discount price of £50 instead of £80. However i think that if my new pair go wrong out of warranty i will have no option but to look at alternatives.A Pair of headphones that cost £80 should last more than a year!!!

I need replacement ear cushions as the originals have virtually dissolved into dust. Does anyone know who might be able to supply these?

Maplin might have some universal type ones. You could also salvage some of a cheaper brand new type, if you can find one the same size as the JVC.
