Tip

Use Clonezilla to backup your drive

In my previous few tips I alluded to using a program called Clonezilla to save an image of your harddrive as a backup. This tip goes through the process for you.

I made a video at the end of this tip that goes through the process step by step. Note that some of your stuff will be different (obviously), but mostly because I am using a virtual machine to do the capture. It's not important if you don't know what that is, just know that I don't actually FINISH the process, because I don't need to. The video gives you a good idea of how to do everything.

First, download clonezilla. You can find the download for the .iso file here. Get the stable release, then on the next page you should see a link to download the latest release. Download the .iso and burn it to a disk using the native windows disk burning app (in win7 and maybe vista), or using a free image burning program such as imgburn or a similar program. Now, insert the disk you just burnt into the computer to be backed up, and boot from it by restarting, then pressing the button to enter the bios boot menu (it should say on the screen as it's booting. If not, try Esc, Del, F1, F2, F7, F11, F12, etc). This will boot to clonezilla. Then, just follow along with the video.

Select disk-image to say you're cloning FROM a disk TO an image. When it asks for a USB disk, plug it in (if you have any problems like I did, you can always go back). Select the disk you are NOT backing up as /partimage...In other words, use your USB disk for /partimage, not your internal disk.

Then, you should be able to just accept the defaults and it will most likely complete without any issues. If you have any problems, there is fairly extensive support available in the clonezilla forum, as well as many other places online.

<utube src="jfHfXJEqzvA">
Not able to see the images properly on my computer screen. Everything else is working fine. but when there is any image on the web page, then I can not see that image. Can see only colors. but can not...

Well I'm assuming this is a Dell,since this is in the Dell section. First,try viewing a pic off your hard drive. If you can see that fine,then go on to the next step,if not then the video card or onboard video has a problem. Could be as simple as re-installing the driver for the device. If the pic displayed fine, then I'll assume you're using Internet Explorer 7 or newer. I'd go to www.microsoft.com & download the latest version of Internet Explorer (8 is newest but 7 is fine for older pc's). You can also try a free browser like Google's Chrome or Firefox & see if that makes a difference. Also, do yourself a favor & download Advanced System Care Free version from www.download.com . Run the windows maintenence portion & then the system diagnostics, leaving all options stock. It's a one click ,let it run program, nothing to adjust. Finally,under utilities in the same program, install the defrag program, run the internet optimizer,the disk clean up. You can actually run this program before anything else,that's if you can see the writing on the webpage to do so. that program alone fixes 80% of what I run into daily in my business. This problem appears to be software related, so the above reccomendations should help. This applies to all versions of windows.

Can you use the logitech quickcam express camera to take videos? & how?

You will need the software that came with the camera, Image Studio. The software contains a menu that lets u open up a program to record video using the webcam. You can download the webcams software from the provided link
http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/l...
If u have the software for the cam then all u do is install it and select Image Studio, from there u have a menu that says take a picture or record a video, select the video. The button ontop of the cam is to take pictures.
Not sure if this is the model

If the Image studio doesn't open then all u do is open up Logitech Gallery..

No video display

If the video card is built into the motherboard then try starting in safe mode and reinstalling the drivers from scratch. Download the latest drivers from the dell website. Safe mode will reduce the resolution and use a generic VGA driver. If your video card is plugged into a PCI slot try unplugging the video card and using a different slot and going through the same process. If you are still not getting any output to your monitor and you are positive the monitor is fine then you may need a new video card. To be sure, if the video card isn't embedded to the mother board, you could take it out and try it in a different computer. Hope that helps.
