Your component has digital technology which has a tendency to 'lock up'.A reset solution for your problem is to simply unplug it for 5 minutes and plug it back in.That should fix your problem.If it is easier to pull the circuit breaker,that is fine also.Simply turning it off will not work as it needs the power supply completely removed.Digital components are defined mainly as things which are programmable such as ovens and refrigerators with LCD or LED displays,thermostats,DVR's,answer machines,TV's and much more.Some things which are not exactly programmable but can be reset the same way are video game consoles,modems,battery operated devices,telephones.If it is battery powered,simply disconnect it from the battery or remove the batteries for 5 minutes then retry it.If that doesn't work,you most likely need a new thermostat.Is this one new?It sounds like it to me.If you have any questions or need more help,just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.I really encourage responses so I can follow up properly as I know where you stand and asking someone else restarts all the explaining because we cannot see other 'Expert's' responses.Good luck,Greg

    The refrigerator is just an example of some things which are digital.This sentence is the key so would you please try pulling the breaker for 5 minutes if you haven't?

    Digital components are defined mainly as things which are programmable and some which are not necessarily such as video game consoles and modems.Greg

Heat pump compressor/fan/air handler runs heat for 30 secs, then all stop. (Trane XR 11 HP w/honeywell T8411R thermostat). Capacitor good, new 5-2-1 hard-start kit added but didn't solve problem.

Sounds like low pressure. Are you losing low voltage to condenser? Backup heat not working likely due to a setting error or possibly a wiring issue.

Honeywell thermostat blows cold air on heat

Thermostats don't actually blow anything, the heating system might though. Check the breakers for your heat system, then call a heating specialist. They're really not that expensive.

I have the same problem where my honeywell cm921 room thermostat never turns off the central heating. If I set my off temp really low will this solve the problem, but if its really low does this become the...

It's either because the thermo sensor is faulty or the location is wrong. Try setting the temp one degree above room temp and see if that works, if it does it's a location issue. The thermo should be close to the centre of the house, not near an outlet or the RA vent & not in a breezeway or other heatsink, at approx 1.5m above floor level.

My honeywell t87n is adjusting the heat setting by

This sometimes happens over time with some digital thermostats. The easiest solution is get a toothpick and hit the reset button. From there just set it as you normally would. That should solve your problem.

Hope this info was helpful to you. Good Luck!

Dy/night heater turns on for 10 sec then and off, over and over

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If I understand your concern, it is that the heater switches itself on for 10 seconds and then switches itself automatically off. A couple of ideas of you may want to explore/check:
  1. the built-in protection system detects an internal fault and to prevent any further damage switches itself off;
  2. the faults could be:
  • open heating element (assuming it is electrical);
  • blower not turning;
  • open limit switch. The limit switch is an inline cutoff to the heater that automatically opens up when the heater exceeds a pre-determined temperature independent of the settings in the thermostat. This is like a thermal fuse once gone bad will remain open;
  • whereas a thermostatic switch will turn on if temperature is below its threshold and turn off if the temperature is above. It is basically an on/off switch.
Often the limit switch would look like the image below.

To be able to provide a more detailed information/assistance, pls verify & post back the model number of the Day Night Heater. Model 8ou-19 does not turn up anything. Or perhaps you can share the website you were referring to.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
