Question about Maytag PDB3600A Built-in Dishwasher

2 Answers

Thanks to the gurus that take the time to help on this site. Recently, our dishwasher has stooped starting. As I turn the dial, the clicks all seem to be appropriate but nothing happens. I have noticed that the locking latch seems loose. The door closes and stays closed but there doesn't seem to be any engaging mechanism to tell the machine that it is safe to start. Is there a safety switch that I can check out? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance and Happy New Year to you!

Could you tell me where I could find his piece and how to check it out
    Please?

the door latch seems to have plenty of spring to it, more than enough to push down on the handle. I wonder though, if the handle has enough travel to engage the contacts on the door switch (link 2).

I removed the inner face of the door to get access to the door switches. when i manually engage the handle mechanism, I can clearly hear the switches engage/make contact (click click). I don't hear this when the handle is supposed to engage as the door closes. While the door was open, I turned the machine to dry, flipped the breaker back on, and attempted to engage the door switches again, to see if some indicator light would come on but... nothing.

I did notice that one of the switches was firmly in place while the other seemed somewhat loose but am not sure whether that is the problem. Is it possible that the door has sagged a bit, causing a poor connection with the switches?

    I'm stumped :-(

Hi

Happy New Year! You would need to check a few things to be sure where/what the issue is?
You would need to check door latch hook(part#8 in link 1), connections to the door switch (part#10 in link2) and door spring linkage(part#13 in link3 ). Please check the below links --

Link 1

Link 2

Link 3

To gain access to the door latch assembly open the door, remove the face plate and check the door switch connections, door latch. This appears to be a loose connection to door switch or due to a mechanical issue with the door latch. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Yes it is possible that it is the handle or the door that is causing this issue.

Look on the exploded veiw on the site that I have the link for the part... it shows you just where the part is... to test it you need to make sure that the contacts close when the door is shut and locked...

make sure the lock is pushing the button and then that when the button is pushed that the contacts close and you get continuity through the switch...

The switch can click and still not work.... the only way to tell for sure is to test it with a meter...
The loose switch could also be a problem....if it does not get pushed in far enough it will not work...

This seems to be a drainage problem, obviously.

There may be some food debris in the drain tube where it connects to the drain pipe. It would be easy to detach and do a visual check, and see if you can clear the clog. Also, try to see if the drainage hose is kinked in anyway that would restrict water flow. If that doesn't work, please don't hesitate to message back with more details!!

Try "Dishwasher Magic" - which is really just citric acid. You can also use white vinegar in an empty wash cycle. You may also want to try different detergents, and if you can, turn the jet dry setting up and use a bit less detergent.

HI. Unfortunately, this damaged timer control module will need to be replaced. This type of device is not designed to be repaired. The timer motor mechanism is damaged, thus, causing theses issues you are experiencing. Apparently, part of the timer dial plate has become fused, or the cogs are damaged.

Have the timer control module replaced, asap. It is not repairable.

Old Hotpoint dial seems off but cannot find starting point

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question!!!!

Dishwasher stalls

If the cycle doesn't complete, check these:

Water-heating cycle
Timer
Water-heating cycle Many dishwashers heat the wash and/or rinse water to a higher temperature, as the cycle calls for it. In these cycles, the dishwasher pauses after it has filled with water, waiting for the water to reach the pre-set temperature. What happens next, depends, as follows:

  • On some units, the pause is timed and the unit continues after the allotted time.

  • On others, the cycle can't continue until the water reaches the higher temperature. If you have this type of dishwasher and the water isn't being heated (say, because of a problem with the heating element or thermostat), after the unit stops at the heating cycle, it never continues. When you repair the heating-system problem, the "cycle problem" is fixed too.

Timer Timers don't often fail. But if every other part of the dishwasher seems to be working properly and the timer knob seems to be stuck in one place--doing one function continuously--the timer may be at fault. Dishwasher timers can't be repaired. If yours is defective, replace it.

Doesn't run

I asked for help when the dishwasher (GE 1991) started up and then quit. Your site was useful as we found a priority list of things to check, thus saving much time and confusion. Our problem turned out to be a disconnected ground wire.

Thanks for the help. You probably saved us a couple of hundred dollars for a repairman. We intend to replace the dishwasher next year when the kitchen is renovated so the timing was important.

I had the same problem. Turn the HIGH TEMP buttons off. Simply turning them off corrected this problem for me. Mine got stuck in two places and I had to manually turn the dials or the washer would run all night.
