Question about Brother LS-2125 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

I am using a Brother LS-2125. I am sewing on denim, and have a new #18 needle. I was trying to sew velcro on, but it had adhesive and was gumming up the needle. I cleaned the needle, but now I am just sewing on denim and the thread keeps snapping . It seems like the balance wheel is moving pretty hard. Any suggestions?

Try cleaning your machine needle shaft (up in it) and the bobbin casing with alcohol because I think that you gummed it up with the velcro glue. Your needle may be shot also, so insert a new one Try cleaning and lubricating very thoroughly. Use a q tip. I am hoping that it did not mess up the timing. there is a velcro that you can sew on but there is no adhesive and will not cause this problem Good luck, let me know if you are okay after this. Please, don't feel bad because I did the same thing, years ago and was able to fix it this way.

Tension settings to sew denim on my brother LS 2125

If you are using standard weight thread, just set the tension at the midway point. The tension may start out too tight, so you'll just need to lighten the upper tension until it's where you want it.

If you are using heavier thread, then you'll probably need to loosen the bobbin tension as well as the top tension. (Frankly, I would try to avoid that prospect as you'll need to change the bobbin tension back to where it was when you start a different project on lighter weight fabric). Be sure you use a denim needle, or even top stitch needle.

Tension setting for sewing denim on brother LS 2125

Refer to 'Manuals Online', Brother sewing machine user manual. There is an excellent guide to tension settings for all fabric types. Also remember to check upper and lower thread has been wound through correctly and are using the same thread top and bottom. Ensure you have the correct needle size for denim ie 100/16 and the correct thread size ie 40-50 cotton or heavy duty polyester.

My thread cutter cuts the top thread with every stitch

that is a possibility and is a reason that I don't use self adhesive velcro any more
I just put in a new needle and that fixed the problem
if it started with the velcro then that should fix it

2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing

Sewing a patch...what type of needle do I use

Always pick the needle type and size according to the fabric that you are sewing. I'm assuming if you are "patching" you might be using an iron on patch product on the underside of the garment and you should try to use a similar weight to the garment's fabric weight to do this.

If you are patching denim for example, you'd use a "denim" needle (teflon blue coating to slide through the fibres better) if you can, probably size 90 or 100. If you don't have a denim needle then just a regular 90 or 100 needle will suffice.

If sewing knits, use a ballpoint needle. For leather and vinyl use a Leather needle, these have a different shaped tip to piece the leather.

Try this link for more good general info on needles you might want to print out the section on sewing machine needle sizes and pin up in your sewing room.

My sewing needle selection is over 25 different needle packs and I probably buy 4-6 packs a year to ensure I've got the right size on hand. Change your needle for every new project - a needle stays sharp for about 4-6 sewing hours then should be replaced. If you are hearing squeaking or popping noises, your needle is blunt, chuck it.

In the words of my sewing mentor Wendy "Dont spoil the ship for a ha'pworth of tar" .

My needle broke on my Brothers LS-2125 sewing machine. I need to order a new one - and I need to know how to change it. Please help!

You can use any brand of needle. The flat part of the needle faces back. Undo the little screw that holds the needle slightly until you can remove the old one. Put the new one in all the way up as far as it will go (flat to the back) and tighten the screw. I would recommend a size 14 ballpoint for regular sewing

I have a brother LS2125i it is easy to use, and I am a complete novice- but when I try to sew heavy denim- Like over the thickest part of the hem it makes a very load click nose- and becomes stuck--- is...

It may be the machine, although most machines would have trouble going over the seam. First, use a Denim needle, 90 or 100 and place a "shim" also called a "jean a majig" to keep the presser foot level. If the foot is shifted, the machine will not sew over the bulk. The machine is not real heavy duty, may have problems , anyway.
