Is your bobbin winder button pushed all the way to the left? Sometimes, it will stick and not let your machine run. Move it back and forth a few times, then select a straight stitch and long length. Good luck

How to adjust timing to pick up bobbin thread?

the eye of the needle has to be at or marginally below the hook of the bobbin case
on the up stroke of the needle so that the hook can pick up the needle thread and run it around the case
at the end of the machine there is a straight shaft that the needle arm is attached to and the clamp for the arm has a screw that can be loosen so that the position of the needle can be set in relation to the hook
singer have good pdf down load workshop manuals that explain it with diagrams

When I move the arm and needle over, why doesn't the arm go down?

Arm and needle? Sounds like a turntable, not a sewing machine. There's typically a 'cueing lever' that controls up/down. Pull that lever forward and down to lower needle to record.

from the cotton holder you run the thread across to the thread tensioner you pull the thread through this then you thread it through the hole in the little arm that goes up and down with the needle you then bring the thread down to the needle passing it through the holder at the top of the needle then you thread the cotton through the needle make shore the needle is in the right way this should work

My riccar sewing machine is kind of computerized. My son punched some buttons and now the needle arm won't come down at all when you step on the foot pedal even though its obvious it can do the various...

A model # would help. Do you have a manual? You can look for the riccar website and search the manual. If its available as download, you can use the CTRL+F function to "find" words like lock, needle, or other things that can narrow it down.

Here are some other riccar sewing machine fixya posts that you might look through. http://www.fixya.com/tags/needle_not_move_down/browse/riccar

Singer sewing model E99670, motor running, but needle arm does not go up and down.

Sounds to me like something has frozen inside the machine causing the belt to slip over the drive shaft of the motor, causing your squeal.

If your machine has not been regularly and professionally maintained... for example taken in for cleaning and oiling it could be anything from a bad bearing to a jammed or bent arm.

Your best option is to take it in to be maintained and repaired.

the motor could have gone out or the machine could have jumped time, you may want to have the machine checked at a sewing machine shop

Bake cookies. This is why you never paid attn when Mom tried to teach you in 1977, and why sewers are on a higher mental plane than yourself, Pammy.

Can't get the Lock Cutter Attachment to work. The right hand cut fabric won't feed through the fabric just won't go through and get cut and over sewn

tally_girl_35.jpg have you got the little silver arm with a gap in it (see photo above mounted over the needle bar? This is essential as the movement of the needle bar going up and down is driving the blades in this attachment.
The walking foot attachment for sewing machines works the same way, you need to place the little arm over the needle bar to make this aftermarket accessory work as its not driven by the sewing machine motor, purely by the movement of the needle bar.

Saying that, I would be suprised if this attachment cut heavy weight fabric or several layers well, like many things made to imitate a purpose built machine (serger) there is no substitute for the real thing. It might be fine to just trim the fabric loose threads off a fabric edge but also you would need to watch that the trimmed bits are going somewhere and not getting into the seam or your machine. On a serger, the blades are working right beside a vertical drop off with a waste tray below and there is a lot of lint and fibres trimmed which quickly builds up. With this attachment, you'd have to manually ensure that the trimmed fibres are swept out of the way.

I hope this helps you to get it working though - 4 thumbs up if so. :-)
