There many times should be a vga port that an external monitor can be connected to. May have to be activated to work, though. You can buy an lcd or led screen that supports VGA. Maybe, it would be cheaper than replacing or repairing the screen on the laptop if you go through Walmart or another source.

Screen broken

Yes you can.
Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

Have a Gateway Notebook KAV-60 with a broken screen. Trying to connect to an external monitor without any prompts or commands, as I can't see the screen. With an Acer Netbook I just plugged in the

Make sure the vga cable is in tight on the kav-60 and the external monitor.

Try the keystrokes to toggle the display. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN function key located at the lower left on the keyboard then hit the key F1 thru F12 that toggles the display. The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit will have LCD/CRT on it or it will have the icon of a display. The display toggles in three stages ( laptop only, external only or both laptop and external).

How to use external monitor on a toshiba laptop with external monitor

It's probably best to buy a keyboard off auction sites or a new screen, the Function keys are not OS sensitive so a different keyboard will not work with them, they are device specific and require special drivers to operate.
Are keys broken or are they just missing? the membrane will still work to a firm press even if the key is missing.

keyboards can be found on auction sites

sorry I can't help more.

My asus u30jc lcd was cracked, where can i buy for replacement

I take it that the Asus monitor external. You do not need to buy the same monitor unless that is what you like. You can buy any monitor that is external that will work with a lap top. You can plug The RCA cable into the lap top RCA port and it should show up.

As to where to buy? Amazon has monitor and searching for the ASUS U30JC finds that monitor for $69.99. But they do caution you to "Please match your original screen's BACKLIGHT TYPE, SIZE, and RESOLUTION before you purchase this item, because some laptop models come with more than one type of screens".

You should check you specifcations to make sure that the monitor matches so the computer will boot up the monitor.

Laptopscreen.com for $74.99 is another. You need to setup an another if you wish to buy from either one. You should, first, call some local electronic shops to see if they have one in house.

Also, if you buy the Amazon/Laptopscreen monitor you will have to have a computer expert exchange the broken monitor with the new one.

Good luck.

Broken screen, external monitor via VGA won't

Press "Fn+F7" once, wait a few seconds, and press it again, to "cycle" through all the possibilities (LCD-only, VGA-only, both).

Try the monitor with some other computer (desktop or laptop) to see if the monitor works at all.

Restart your computer -- does the initial "splash" screen (showing CPU speed and RAM-test) show? Does the "Windows" screen (with the crawling worm) show on the external monitor?

Connect broken laptop screen to external monitor

Suggestion- on my toshiba fn-f5 switches display modes, but to remove display connectors, you may have messed up your keyboard ribbon cable connection. it probably has a small sliding lock to hold it in place- if the lock isn't tight, your keyboard may not be recognized, which could mess up your display. Also, make sure your battery is charged and/or your power supply to your laptop is connected. hope this helps!

Nec laptop screen not displayin

What have you tried so far?
Connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if it is the adapter or the screen that is broken. Toggle on to the external monitor. If the external monitor works, you'll know it is the laptop screen(or a component of it) that needs repair
Check your laptop latch to see if it is broken.
