Question about Nintendo Wii Console

1 Answer

Fried Wii The day after an electrical storm my Wii no longer has any power at all. It's the only electrical device I have ever had that has ever been harshly affected by a thunder storm. Is there an easy solution that doesn't involve sending out for repair, like the reset button on my G4?

Unplug the power supply from the wii and the wall. You must unplug it from both. Wait a full 5 min. and then plug it into the wii then the wall. This resets the power supply. 9 times out of 10 this is all you have to do.

It is possible that your power supply fried but everything else is still ok. Something like this could happen during a lightning storm. If you know someone with a wii, try to use their ac adapter (with a 120V adapter). If this works, then you just need a new power supply which is much cheaper.

Tip

Wii won't turn on after a power outage.

Hey, recently had a power outage and now your Wii won't turn on?

Well unless your Wii is completely fried from the storm then this should work (It has for me every time I have had an outage).

After you find out it's not getting power then just unplug the power cable from the wall and from the Wii. Normally I unplug it for about 12-24 hours then you go plug it back into the wall, plug it back into the Wii, look at the power button and if it is red/orange then it has been fixed and you should never have a problem with it again unless you keep it plugged in during a thunderstorm/power outage!

This has happened to me about 8 times and this method worked every single time!

Wii wont turn on, nothing had a lightning storm last night and now nothing

Try replacing the power cable, many times when there is a power surge and you do not have a surge protector it will burn out the transformer on the power cord. If you replace it and still nothing, most likely your Wii has been burned out by a power surge.

Try using a friend's power adapter just in case yours got fried. If you don't know anyone that has a wii you can buy new adapters at stores like Gamestop for I think $20. If it doesn't work they have a policy now where you can return them even if they're opened within 7 days. If a new adapter doesn't work then your wii may be fried. Try calling Nintendo and see if they can do a repair for a cost, or if you are still under warranty and if they'll cover you.

My Wii will not power on

Have you tried using someone else's Wii power cord? The power outage may have fried the power cord. If you try a new power cord and it still doesn't work, then it seems like the only thing you are able to do is to send it in for repairs. When you try and use a different power cord, borrow a friend's if possible instead of buying a new one, just in case.

Wii fried in an electrical storm

Hey Sorry for your loss, But I don't think you can fix it for cheap this kind of repair will be expensive and I wouldn't count on it either. Your best option is to buy a new one and make a claim Tom
