Question about Harman Kardon AVR 225 Receiver

Open Question

Our harman kardon avr 225 reciever shuts down randomly while watching TV or movies by saying "PROTECT" then it won't be able to be used for a while because if u try to turn it on it will will only stay on for a couple of minutes until going back into "PROTECT" mode. Please tell me what I need to do to fix this so I can enjoy watching movies and such without my harman kardon avr 225 reciever going out again.

SOURCE: My Harman Kardon receiver (

I used the live chat and the problem was resolved.
Usually the problem are strands of speaker wires which cause shorting and protection shuts off the receiver in order to prevent damage. There was one speaker that I repositioned recently which was causing shorting. I twisted the wires and tightened them in place and my receiver has been working w/o a glitch. I was lucky that I did not have to check all the wire strands on the receiver and all the speakers.
Problem solved and I learned valuable lesson.

SOURCE: can I conect harman Kardon avr 230 to apple tv

Yes, although it (AVR) does not support HDMI only component video.

Connect the audio to the receiver and the video directly to the TV if you have inadequate video inputs, or want to take advantage of the HDMI.

SOURCE: Harman/kardon avr 247 no audio or LED display on the reciever

I've had the exact problem. HK in the states is no help, you need to deal with a company in Montreal (Jan Industries). Regular techs are unable to fix it without schematics that only authorized dealers have and the manufacturer. This problem happened to me just after 2 years and outside warranty. I've bought a Yamaha today.

PROBLEM WITH DOLBY DIGITAL ON HARMAN KARDON AV225

Well it it might not. What exact model TV?

Your high-fidelity equipment should get TV-related audio from the same place the TV gets it - Cable, DVD, BD or Sat. A digital feed each of them will carry TRUE Dolby Digital audio. There is little sense in diluting TV-related audio through a TV and it's marginal audio electronics that are usually limited to analog stereo.

I have my harmon kardon avr 35 hooked to my tv. now i have lines on the top of my tv screen. is it my reciever, or my tv?

Hi kjlennon,

If you using antenna tv most likly the AVR gives you RF interference into your tv.
Using ferrite choke on your AVR power cord can help you reduce it.

My Harman Kardon receiver ( AVR 225) displays "protect" and shuts off when I try to play anything (tape, CD, FM/AM). I unplugged receiver and reset it several times. The sam "protect" comes again.
