I cant boot the laptop without battery even with good charger.
I can boot the laptop with charger even with a faulty battery.
Whenever i take out the battery the laptop dies off even with a good working battery.
Looks like the laptop cant detect the charger so it need the signal from battery to work.
    Any idea??

That could either be a problem with the AC adapter or the motherboard.
You can try updating the firmaware of you motherboard first. Go to this link: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
download the BIOS firmware, save it on the desktop then run it. Your computer will reboot while the BIOS is being updated, if you'll have the same problem after that, call Dell to get a replacement for your AC adapter or motherboard.

Dells are picky about which charger they like. a non genuine charger may poer the laptop up, may not and will probably not charge it.
The issue I suspect you are having however, is a faulty DC jack ( does the jack feel loose in the charge port)?, or a faulty charging board circuit. If the jack is loose, you should get a new one soldered in.
Also with a multimeter set to 20 DC volts, check the output from the jack inner and outer terminals to see you are getting the right voltage

I would not attempt trying to hotwire this to the battery by bypassing the circuits and I.m not sure that this can be done, at least not with any measure of safety, at the least, you could burn a hole in your motherboard. in all honesty, this is at a stage where it needs looking at by a qualified repair technichian, or electronics expert who can trace the root cause of the problem.

Dell D600 won't boot

I am sure Not the CPU or fan problem. Follow the below step to repair it.
1. Just press the power button 5 seconds or more to see the laptop can reboot or not. 2. replug the memory modules. 3. maybe the power supply device failed that the electronic volt is not enough to boot the laptop. Just replace a new Dell latitude d600 battery power supply.

D600 Power problem, Won't boot up

Hi,

I agree. Try to turn on your computer using the ac adapter only. If the system won't hold power using the ac adapter. I suggest to call you computer manufacturer to check the warranty . I am seeing a problem with the motherboard.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.

Wont turn on

Maybe that is why Dell makes an external battery charger.

It may be the ac power adapter (BRICK) is not putting out the required voltage/amps.
