Get the directions from NetGear, for free, and use their install wizard.
Here are the (generic) highlights of what needs to be set:

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

How do I connect to the kindle store my kindle will not connect so I may download kindle books?

To connect to the Kindle Store your device must have either a wi-fi connection to the Internet or a 3G Whispersynch connection via a telecom. Some Kindles come with the 3G and some don't. The ones that don't require a Wi-Fi connection.

So, if you have Wi-Fi access the turn off Airplane mode in Settings and enter the Wi-Fi password to your router. If you are using public Wi-Fi such as at McDonalds you might have to
use the experimental browser in setting to be able to click the *accept terms* button or you will not have access even if connected.

I have to enter my password several times to get my kindle to log on. I always have to log on..the signal seems to be weak adjacent to the router. authentication failed is a normal response on my kindle....

your kindle device should be able to connect the network automatically , if this is not happening try adding the network manually.
1.First, make sure you are within range of the network you want to add, and that you know the network name and password (if required).
2.From the Home screen, tap Menu and select Settings.
3.Select Wi-Fi Networks to display a list of detected Wi-Fi networks.
4.Tap Join to enter network details.
5.Use the onscreen keyboard to enter the name of the Wi-Fi network that you want to add.
6.Once the Network Name has been entered, tap the Password box and enter Wi-Fi password / Network Key using the onscreen keyboard (if required).
Tip: Tap the 123 key to enter numbers or symbols. Tap the ABC key to return to the regular keyboard. Tap the Shift key (up arrow) to enter uppercase characters. Your password may include non-English letters (accents, umlauts etc.). To view accent options, press and hold a letter down, and accent options appear.
7.Tap Connect

Does all your wireless devices have weak signal issues? If so , Then problem may be with the wireless router.Try changing the wireless channel on the router by logging into the router interface page.
Authentication failed is the message u ll normally get when u enter the password incorrectly.
