Question about JVC GR-D30U Camcorder

1 Answer

Hello, my camcorder is GR-D37OU. All of a sudden, the tapes are showing the movies (in playback) in disconnected sideways lines. (I wish I could draw you a picture). I have changed the movies twice and it keeps doing it. I don't have a cleaning tape--if that's it--is there anything I can clean it with at home? I live about 25 miles from a town to buy a tape. Thanks, Judy

This is most likely caused by a damaged or misaligned video drum and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Using movie maker to upload from JVC GR-axm17u (older camcorder) Got it hooked up to pinnacle usb device. I see the movie clip on my PC but the quality is terrible. Looks great on my camera as it is...

The USB device may be converting the footage to a very compressed codec.
Computer playback is not intended for interlaced footage as the camera produces so this may impact on the viewing.
Converting Compact VHS is best done with an Analogue to Digital Converter over a firewire connection rather than a USB device if you wish to edit in Movie Maker.

When I playback my videos, the picture is obscured by a series of thick black lines

Hello

Just to clarify, does the footage look something like THIS?

If this is what you are experiencing, it is a result of "Dirty" heads.

If you have a head cleaning tape, run this through as per instructions.
If you don't have one, buy one.
This should fix it.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards
Andrea

JVC mini Dv GR-D720E has small squares on playback

Indeed it seems that there was a really stubborn bit of dirt on the heads. I had to use the cleaning tape several times to ultimately have a clear picture on record and playback.
thanks again ,but successive cleaning can help for an effective cleaning of the tape path and heads.

I get 5 constant black lines on playback of my JVC GR-D270. Do I just need to get a head cleaner?

Hi,
I had the same problem, just spray electronic switch cleaner onto the tape reader heads. Solved my problem first time.

No sound when playing back video footage

If there is an external microphone jack on the camera, it would help if you tried recording with an external microphone. Also, the mini DV's will mute the sound if the tape guides are slightly out of adjustment. You can tell if they have moved by trying a known good sound tape in the machine. If that plays with no sound also, the tape guides have moved out of alignment.

No playback on JVC GR-D72

It souunds like the problem is in the Vid-PC connection. I suggest you start by downloading the latest version of whatever software you have used to capture and view.

Also - uninstall any hardware in the PC that is used to capture (just remove from system device list) and then restart the PC and let it detect and re-install.

If you don't know how to do these steps, then you'll need geek help.

Usually when the recording is started it takes around 10 to 15 seconds for the camera to recognise and display the duration of remaining tape, if you feel there is a problem, try using different brand tape.

Horizontal snow lines on record and playback

the symptom is caused by a dirty video head. sometimes cleaning tape cannot do all the jobs, especially when the dirt is so much that any cleaning tape cannot remove it. open the cover, use a clean white paper dampened with a little alcohol. use your finger on the paper and gradually move the head drum back and forth. donot move the paper up or down. just move the drum slowly. good luck!
