Question about Sharp Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have a sharp R1480. Probable trouble in control or switch. Began by needing to hit or push harder on the start button to engage the micro. After a while it didn't respond at all. I did order a control panel, but that wasn't it.

It may be a bad membrane keypad or a simple a door switch issue. It's rarely the control circuit board (control unit).

Sharp microwave model R7704 replace the fuse came on start humming and went out again what could the problem be

Robert, you have a short somewhere in the electrical system and that is why it keeps blowing the fuse. Many times, I have found that one of the micro-switches connected to the door opening are the culprit to the short. You would need access to a multi-meter that can measure continuity to be able to check them. Some microwaves are more difficult than others to access those micro-switches and you will need to be able to pull the wires off of the switches to get an accurate reading. If you decide to try this yourself, either take a picture of the wiring before you remove any wires or at least write down a good description of the wiring. You might use some masking tape and put a small piece around each wire and number them in sequence and write that down so that you make sure to re-wire the switches properly. Each of the switches are going to be a normally open or normally closed switch and one of them may have a bad internal connection and you may have no reading at all or have the same reading no matter which way the button is pushed. You will have to push the button on the switch to activate the switch to get your reading. A normally open switch will have no reading until you push the button. A normally closed switch should always have a reading until you push the button. If you have no reading or a constant reading or if the button will not push, that switch is going to be your problem. Replace that switch and put everything back together and that should take care of your problem. Hope this helps!

Microwave door ...hwhen closed....oven light and fan will turn on

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount (which are pretty simple problems to fix).

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

Sharp microwave R305hw won't shut off when plugged in. Off Cancel button and Start buttons don't engage and the carousel turns and the fan runs but no heat is generated when powered on. Only solution to...

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or occasionally a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

That sounds like a door switch. Which switch is it? Top, middle, bottom?

Is your model number R1480? If not, please reply back with your model number so we can help you.

The door switches in model R1480 are:

QSW-MA110WRE0 top & bottom switches

FFS-BA016/KIT middle monitor switch with fuse (kit)

You can probably find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number here at the Sears parts site.

But the best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

If none of this info helps you, please reply back with your brand and model number and let me know which part you need.

Microwave won't START!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's usually a broken tab on the upper switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position.

This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

While replacing the switch holder is the preferred solution, using hot glue to secure the switch to the holder is much easier and quicker. Just be sure not to let the door be slammed from now on.

I'm having problems with the door switches on my R-1480

Double-check your wiring against the "pictorial diagram".

The switches will have a "C" (common) terminal, and a "NO" (normally open) terminal, and some will have a "NC" (normally closed) terminal.

As long as those connections are the same and the voltage and current (amps) ratings are the same or higher, any number of switches will work.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

It's easier to secure the switches with hot glue than to replace the latch heads, by the way.

Microwave oven inoperative

When you enter the time then hit START, does the turntable motor come on? If not, then I would suspect the secondary interlock switch, its mount, or its wiring. If so, then it's hard to say, unless there was some miswiring somewhere. The original problem sounded like just a classic bad door switch. At this point I suspect the wires on one of them may not have been reconnected exactly where they were. It does matter. I would suspect the secondary interlock switch, which MAY have white/white and grey/grey wires attached. Also, one of the switch mounts may have a broken tab that makes the switch move so it's not getting activated. At our site, we have the service manual for the R1830, which is similar to the R1480-series. We have that plus *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
