This particular printer model is setup as a Direct Thermal printer only with the Option of Thermal Transfer printing as well. I would need to know the specific printer part number to better answer your question. Direct Thermal only printers do NOT need a Thermal Ribbon to print on the labels.

If the unit is set up for either(with the thermal trasnfer option- ribbon unwind and rewind assembly) you can use either ribbon- with thermal transfer stock, or direct thermal- with direct stock.
You can tell the stock by rubbing something across the stock to see if it will turn black, that is direct thermal stock.
If using direct, go into the setup and select media type- direct thermal.
If using ribbon- use thermal trasnfer option. But remember to install ribbon before calibration as ithe printer will error on out-of -ribbon.

I HAV A DATAMAX I-CLASS PRINTER IT IS SAYING THAT I HAVE A RIBBON FAULT AND THE PRINTER IS THERMAL

Thermal can mean "Direct Thermal" (no ribbon) or "Thermal Transfer" (with ribbon). If you want to print using Direct Thermal labels you need to select Direct Thermal from Media Settings in the Menu accessed from the Control Panel on the front of the printer. Otherwise, the printer sensors will look for a ribbon that is not there, and you will see an error message.

Yes, you can order another cd for the m-4206 from any authorized reseller. But, do you really need one? All the cd's have old drivers on them, and newer drivers are available online for free download.

We have several Datamax I-4208 printers and a few of the older I-4206 models. It would appear the replacement printheads are one in the same for both models be we cannot get either of our spares to work in...

Some changes were made on the I Class units and the new printheads do not work correctly in the discontinued 4206 models. You need part number DPO20-2262-01 for your I-4206.

Datamax M-4206 printing too slow

Hello,

The way you can do this is to use Datamax fonts in your LabelMatrix program instead of truetype fonts like arial or times new roman. After making this change, do a test print and see if print improves. Another possible solution is use USB instead of Parallel cable (if you're not using it already).
