Question about Compaq Presario CQ60-220US PC Laptop

2 Answers

I have Compaq CQ61-319WM. I repaired the AC power adapter and when I power the laptop on with AC adapter or battery, I get the caps lock and num lock leds flash once about every three seconds. I get no beep codes even after removing the RAM. NOTE: I got this laptop second hand after another tech tried to figure out the problem. It was already disassembled and I had to figure out what he had tried. Apparently he doesn't have a DMM to check the AC Adaptor. I am good with hardware but not knowing what this person did besides leaving it disassembled is something I can't intuitively figure out. Does anyone know the error codes, blink codes and beep codes for this unit? Thank you for your help.

The motherboard uProcessor is not completing POST so the main uProcessor is not running properly.
When downloading a BIOS update without any antivirus programme running or installing a corrupt BIOS programme will have this effect.
Without an EPROM programmer and the programme, there is not much that can be done save replacing the motherboard for a known good one.
Hope this helps.

You have been unlucky in trying to re-assemble a laptop that someone else pulled apart. I find the notion of a technician without a multimeter strange too.. I doubt it is the AC Adaptor in any case

I'm going to assume that you checked all the connections and the condition of the motherboard before you assembled it and noticed no blown capacitors or diodes, burning marks or broken traces. That you checked the CPU and are happy it was working and , more importantly, was the right CPU for that laptop.

My laptop will not turn on

Try another AC Adapter with the battery taken out of the laptop. If the light still blinks then that means the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

Compaq 6735s notebook pc goes to HP screen, but wont boot

Hi,

First you need to determine how many blinks you are getting when you try to power on the laptop.
Check the blinking codes below and reason behind that for HP Compaq laptops

Blinking battery power LED Battery Insufficient charge on the battery
Blink: 1 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - CPU CPU not functional
Blink: 2 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS corruption failure
Blink: 3 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Memory Module error not functional
Blink: 4 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Graphics Graphics controller not functional
Blink: 5 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - System board General system board failure
Blink: 6 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS authentication failure

Plz get back so I can suggest you the steps to resolve the issue.

Blank screen on laptop

Sorry to hear you are having problems. I have had this same issue before with this particular model. The following solution works 90% of the time.Perform a hard reset as the first procedure.
  1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards. You want to test the computer not the accessories!
  2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds .
  3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not connect the battery), Press the Power button, Look for glowing LEDs near caps lock and num lock keys, and Listen for sounds of a disk drive and fan turning.
Meaning of Sample Blink Codes for some EFI Notebooks Number of Blinks or Beeps Location of Blinking LEDs Component Being Checked Error Condition Continuous glow Battery power LED Battery The AC adapter is attached and the battery is charging, but does not yet have sufficient charge to power the notebook. 1 Caps Lock/Num Lock CPU CPU not functional 2 Caps Lock/Num Lock BIOS BIOS corruption failure 3 Caps Lock/Num Lock Memory Module error not functional 4 Caps Lock/Num Lock Graphics Graphics controller not functional 5 Caps Lock/Num Lock System board General system board failure 6 Caps Lock/Num Lock BIOS BIOS authentication failure Continuous blink AC power adapter LED Power adapter Insufficient power
Blink codes are often displayed after a user adds memory to the computer but does not seat the module properly. The LEDs may also blink error codes if a hardware component is loose because the computer was dropped or jarred. Some HP Notebook PCs come with one stick of memory but have two memory slots. The problem could be that the stick of memory or one of the memory slots has a bad connection. The memory module compartment on most notebooks is located on the bottom of the case. The exact position varies by model. However, on some models, the memory compartment is under the keyboard. See your User Guide for the exact location of memory modules on your notebook.

Use the following steps to remove and reseat the memory modules: Step 1 - Remove the electrical power To remove all power from the computer and prevent accidental damage to the electronic components, do the following:
  1. Turn off the computer by pressing and holding down the Power button for about 30 seconds.
  2. Unplug the AC adaptor from the notebook.
  3. Slide and hold the battery release latch to the unlock position.
  4. Use your finger to lift the battery up and out.

  • Remove the memory module cover on the bottom of the notebook .Loosen the compartment's retention screws and lift up and remove the memory compartment cover. Remove the memory modules from the memory slots To prevent damage to the memory module, grasp the memory module by the side edges. Do not touch the metal contacts.
1 - Pull the retention clips away from sides of the memory module
2 - Gently pull the module out of the memory module slot
  • Reseat the memory module by holding module at a 45-degree angle, and pressing it firmly into the memory slot until it is seated.

After reseating the memory module, replace the cover over the memory compartment before restarting the computer

Hope this helps FiYa! If you find this solution helpful, please take a moment to leave us some feedback.

    Thank You!
