hey man this is a disc drive problem but its very simple to fix.only thing is you'll need to disassemble your console and take the case off your disc drive. it will void warranty. its very easy to fix, not worth sending back to MS and get charged money. has worked on 3 out of the 3 xboxes ive seen with open tray errors. all had BenQ drive. good luck.">

I think my lens is weak, the cd has to be ejected and inserted a couple of times before it works

Like any system, Xbox consoles require occasional cleaning to remain in peak condition. If you're experiencing skipping, poor sound quality, increased loading time, or any number of technical annoyances, simply cleaning your Xbox lens may correct the problem. The lens is responsible for reading all the data on your Xbox game discs; it is the most important part of the entire system. Cleaning the lens takes only a few minutes with the right cleaning product and know-how.
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
Things You'll Need:

* CD lens cleaning disc

1.Purchase a CD lens cleaning disc. It is important that you buy a lens cleaner for a CD player, not a DVD player. Classic Xbox consoles are not DVD compatible, but they can play CDs. Some lens cleaning discs are marketed specifically as Xbox 360 cleaners, but these may not work in an original Xbox if the disc is DVD-formatted.

2.Turn on your television and Xbox just like you normally would to play a video game.

3.Open your Xbox's disc drive, placing the lens cleaning disc in the drive face-up. A lens cleaning disc works by sweeping small brushes over the laser lens surface. These brushes are located on the bottom of the disc; be careful not to touch the brushes---the microfiber brushes are delicate and can become damaged easily.

4.Close the Xbox and let the machine power up; make sure your television's volume is turned on. Your Xbox should automatically take you to the system's standard CD player menu. If this does not happen, select the menu manually using your Xbox controller.

5.Begin playing the first track of the cleaning disc. Listen carefully, because audio directions will play indicating the steps necessary for properly using your cleaning disc. Each brand of lens cleaning disc will have different steps, but they are typically very simple, involving tasks like skipping ahead to different tracks or briefly putting the CD in fast forward mode. If you cannot hear the audio directions, consult the written instructions packaged with the disc.

6.Remove the cleaning CD after you've followed the audio directions---a typical cleaning cycle only takes a few minutes, and the audio directions will tell you when cleaning is complete.

7.Carefully place the lens cleaning disc back in its case, avoiding damaging the brushes on the bottom. Lens cleaners can be used multiple times, so plan on using the cleaning disc regularly to help avoid future problems with your Xbox console

My xbox is not reading any games or dvds when i put a disk in it starts reading then comes up open try like the xbox thinks there is no disc in there at all

it sounds like your dvd drive lens is dirty or out of line without opening your machine the best bet is to buy a cd with tiny brushes on to clean any dust of lens if not you would have to open xbox to clean lens yourself i have plenty of experience with drives they can easily be damaged so get help if not sure.

Keeps saying open tray after reading disc

the lasers probably loosened up with the vibration. if its outa warranty take the disc drive apart and look for the tiny screws on the underneath of the rails the laser moves on. (the rails rest on the screws). tighten them a quarter turn at a time and test the xbox after each turn until it reads.
and to be on safe side give the laser a clean while your at it
hope that helps

It says the disc is unreadable and ive cleaned

Ok this worked on my mw2.
Take some toothpaste, a soft cloth.
wet the dist then dab a small amount on the game disk. (NOTE!!) STREAK OUTWARS TO THE EDGE NOT IN CIRCLE IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS IT WILL MAKE IT WORSE!.
after youve done this wash and repeat 10-15 times (note) it will take about an half an hr if you do it properly.

Xbox 360 open tray error apears to be a dirty laser. how do you clean it ?

Go to the electronics section of Wal-Mart, Target, etc. and buy a laser lens cleaner. They typically cost 15-20 dollars.

They will come with specific instructions, but typically you:

1) Insert the disc into the disc drive
2) Have the disc drive read a particular track on the disc, so that the soft brushes attached to the underside of the disc can clean the laser lens.

Some people attempt to clean a laser lens by lightly wiping it with a Q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol. This is NOT a good method because of the high probability that you will either scratch the lens or leave some cotton on the lens making your problem worse.

Open up the DVD drive, clean the laser lens with a Qtip and alcohol, push the laser lens cradle next to the center (spinner) and lastly dust off the insides of the console. This works all the time. I've done this more than 10 times on different consoles.

My game wont read on my xbox 360

I believe you can use a DVD cleaner without voiding your warrenty. If you have a warrenty then call Xbox tech support to get it fixed. And if you don't buy an extended warrenty for $50 and then call them and tell them you need your Xbox fixed

steps to be followed.

  1. step 1 Purchase a DVD lens cleaning disc.
  2. Step 2 Turn on your television and Xbox just like you normally would to play a video game.
  3. Step 3 Open your Xbox's disc drive, placing the lens cleaning disc in the drive face-up. A lens cleaning disc works by sweeping small brushes over the laser lens surface. These brushes are located on the bottom of the disc; be careful not to touch the brushes---the microfiber brushes are delicate and can become damaged easily.
  4. Step 4 Close the Xbox and let the machine power up; make sure your television's volume is turned on. Your Xbox should automatically take you to the system's standard CD player menu. If this does not happen, select the menu manually using your Xbox controller.
  5. Step 5 Begin playing the first track of the cleaning disc. Listen carefully, because audio directions will play indicating the steps necessary for properly using your cleaning disc. Each brand of lens cleaning disc will have different steps, but they are typically very simple, involving tasks like skipping ahead to different tracks or briefly putting the CD in fast forward mode. 6. Step 6 Remove the cleaning CD after you've followed the audio directions---a typical cleaning cycle only takes a few minutes, and the audio directions will tell you when cleaning is complete.
  7. Step 7 Carefully place the lens cleaning disc back in its case, avoiding damaging the brushes on the bottom. Lens cleaners can be used multiple times, so plan on using the cleaning disc regularly to help avoid future problems with your Xbox console.
