Question about GE GSS20GEW Side by Side Commercial Refrigerator

Open Question

I have a GE model GSS20GEW and I am having the ice machine freeze up at the top where the water comes in above the freeze tray, and then leaking into the back of the freezer causing problems with the fan, making things not freeze, it seems to be putting out too much water, on outside of the ice machine on the left side there is a + and - plastic circle, but with no teeth for turning, I don't know if this is for a feature my machine doesn't have or what. I have heard you can adjust this slowly for flow? Maybe someone knows if this is a bad water valve or if there is a way to change the amount of water it releases, or what my problem actually is, thanks.

My Ice maker doesn't make ice anymore

90% of ice maker problems are water related. Sounds like water may be continually seeping in from the inlet water valve (normal thing to do if the water level is low). This will not allow the water to get down to freezing temperature. You have to identify the reason that water is constantly running in. It's probably "leaking" out at the dump valve. Or does that unit have a float valve that may be leaking. Check your drain to see if water is leaking out during the freeze cycle.

Ice maker does not work how do I fix

Is freezer cold enough to freeze ice ?
There is a wire across the ice tray that must be down into the tray so the ice machine knows there is room for the next batch of ice in the tray.
If the wire is up in the off position ..no ice willbe dumped into the tray.
Is water being supplied to the ice machine ?

If all above is not the problem ..go online and buy a replacement ice machine.
The cost to fix old machine greater than cost of new machine.

Defroster leaks

you have a clogged defrost drain tube. removing back panel of freezer will give you acess to drain trough, melt away the ice with a hair dryer, youll find a drain hole under there somwhere, pouring boiling water down the drain will clear it pretty quickly( i use a steam machine purchased from the infomercials works awesome, after you clear it and all water drain down tube wrap a piece of solid copper wirearound the heater( black calrod heater right above the drain trough) and stick it in the whole maybe an inch or so. now everythime the heater comes on to defrost it will prevent the hole from freezing over

The ice maker usually is an easily removable assembly, lift and pull or something like that. It may be the little water line has cracked, plastic don't like being cold.

The tube freezes over where water comes in to fill the ice tray

You may have a related problem. If the freezer compartment isn't sealing off it will have excess moisture inside eventually making excess ice build up on the water inlet tube on the ice maker. Otherwise the water inlet valve is not closing completely and a little bit of water is building up and freezing.
