My Bernina 1230 (which I love very much) is sick. When I turn it on, it just flashes lights on and off till I turn it off. I think it might be dead. Linda

Hmmm, not sure I can answer your problem. I have several Berninas (older than your 1230) but have not had this problem. Wondering if your machine needs oiling--like maybe the reverse mechanism is stuck. With mechanical machines, I've been able to loosen stuck parts using heat from a handheld hair dryer. Not sure that would work on your machine.

Hmm, wonder if it could be a board or ????? You've already tested the foot control and it seems to be okay, so the problem would appear to be in the machine itself. Does the light work? That may be another clue.

May be time for a service call.

Just checked on U-Tube there are several video's there for problems, otherwise there is a spring at the top of the needle shaft that can be loosened. Good Luck!
