Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I LOVE this sweet old system but have 2 problems. 1. The CD player works intermittently, sometimes starting when I push play, but more often NOT! It also will just stop spinning after playing for a few minutes. 2. 1 speaker works infrequently when in CD mode but works fine in other modes. This happens in the channel. I checked the speakers and connections and they are fine. Help please! I am willing to take this apart if necessary with a little guidance. Thanks Bonnie

    Hi Greg,
I tried your solution, cleaning the lens carefully 3 times. It's still sometimes working and sometimes not. The CD is playing somewhat more consistently but only one speaker channel is working as before. What do you think I should try next?
    Thanks, Bonnie

    Hey Greg!
That did it! One more cleaning of the lens and everything is working. CD and BOTH channels. You were right that somehow the speaker channel is dependent on a clean lens. Are they easily damaged? It's dusty here but that's what I'll do in the future if it doesn't create a new problem. I LOVE easy solutions....they don't come my way that often.
    Yay!!.....Thanks a lot Greg,

With a CD working intermittently, one thing I will recommend but rarely do sometimes works in your situation.Get some optical lens,or laser eye cleaner and the cloth and clean the CD laser. There are various shop names for it so I am not exactly sure what the actual name is at the store but if you describe it,the store will know what you mean. The speaker working may be related to the CD intermittent working so I will leave it at that for now.Once you clean the laser, let it dry for several minutes or whatever the directions say, then try it and let me know if anything changes please and I will reply ASAP.Good luck,Greg

If you can, switch the speaker sides.L-R,R-L.If the problem switches stays with the bad side output,it is the receiver,if it stays with the bad speaker,it is the speaker.Also,re-clean the eye just once more. They rarely work intermittent like that.It is usually all or nothing. Also, have you tried a few different CD's since the cleaning? It also is unusual for a CD to do that but stranger things have happened.Greg

I think i said it already but here you go.If the CD works intermittent,it is usually a dirty lens.If it doesn't work at all, normally the lens is shot.If it is dusty there, when the unit cools off, perhaps after a half hour, put a cloth over it to help keep out dust.Another thing you can do is buy a can of 'compressed air'.It's about $5/can and is available at most retail stores such as 'W' and Target. It is just very clean air.Spray out your component about every 3 months. It is much better if you can take the cover off, which usually isn't difficult at all.Normally all the screws are the same exact ones but if you run into an oddball one,MAKE SURE you remember where that one goes.I regularly take apart my computer and clean it with that and it will last a very long time.Greg Happy listening

2007 toyota camry cd player reading error 1

I had the error code no. 1 in my 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. It has the CD radio unit with JBL system. It will not eject the CD, or play it. I removed the entire radio/CD unit and replaced it with a used excellent unit bought off of ebay for $100, and the replacement works fine. However the replacement is also 7 years old. Therefore I would not be surprised if it failed again. Prior to the error 1 I had intermittent error 3 codes, which had the same effect: no playing of the CD, unable to eject, and unable to insert other CDs. Sometimes the error codes would go away, and the function would be normal. But once it started, I think it was on a downhill path. A new replacement is nearly $2000. Used are about $100 to $200 or more depending on the seller and condition of the unit. Youtube has videos on how to replace the unit which only requires simple tools: it is not difficult but takes about 45 minutes to an hour. If you do it you have to put the car in gear to move the gear shift gate, which requires the car to be on, so you should have the parking brake on for safety. One alternative is to send your unit to a repair company but that might cost more than simply replacing the unit. Good luck!

CMT-ED1 cd player works intermittently/partially

Greetings, I have owned this system since around 1999/2000, my CD function started to mal-function a year or so later. It would sometimes play, but more often than not, it would wobble and make strange clicking type noises. I gave up trying to figure the problem out because of the frustration, and didnt want to spring big bucks to take it in the shop to fix professionaly. However...only yesterday, based upon some advice I read online somewhere, I think I solved the problem and I will pass along what I did.
1 I first took some rubbing alcolhol and useing a model paint brush, I dipped the brush into the bottle and applyed it on the laser lense (do this spareingly, do not flood) this cleaned the lense of dust and grime)
2 It played a CD for the first time in 10 years. started to do it's old tricks when I tryed to skip to the next song.
3 I noticed a small button on the right, front side on top of the unit. I think this button serves as a sort of safety stop. I then lifted up the glass lid, and held down the button with my finger. I noticed the lense of the laser go DOWN into the body of the unit. When I released the button, it came back UP.
4 I placed a CD into the player, placed the stabiliser on the top of the CD as normal, AND HELD THE BUTTON DOWN with my finger, LEAVEING THE GLASS TOP UP. It PLAYED. I recorded a Flatt

Bose 321 DVD System

I love my Bose 321 DVD system, but a few days ago, it started acting weird. I put in a DVD, and it reads - "No Disc".....and I'm not sure why. I cleaned the disc, and I also played a DVD/CD Maintenance kit - I'm not sure what is wrong. It seems like I have a problem within the system - what can I do?

MP3 files start skipping/popping after few minutes of playback

Sony say in the manual that if you record high bit-rate mp3's the sound may be intermittent. I feel this is due to the decoder having to move ALOT of bits around to play, try some makeing a disk with mixed rate mp3's on. e.g.) some 64Kbps, some 128, some 192, and some as high as you can get and see if there is any differ Luck

CD player

All this cd systems have the same problem. If you're using burned cd's sometimes they don't work so you need to close the session after burning in your burning program. If you're using original cd's it means that the device needs to be cleaned up (especially the lens) because the structure of a 5 cd combo device gets very dusty after a while. Also from my experience after cleaning it put a cd in each deck (even if it's off) so they could prevent it getting dustier again. Hope it helps, good luck!!
