Probebly because System Mechanic uses an engine that the Antivirus percieves to be a threat, remember that it goes quite deep in the system registry to modify and delete keys, the antivirus mistakes this for an invasion of the computer. You can "educate" the AV to accept and give it permissions, OR you can run the programme as administrator (vista)
Failing that, disable the AV whilst system mechanic is about its business
