Hi Latoof thanks for your help so far. I hope I will give it a try this weekend.

It seems that you know a bit about computers, so i hope you don't mind if i ask you something else as well. At some point last week the computer couldn't start up. It seems there was a problem with the power supply of the hard drive and since then, although i can switch it on, it is rather slow. Do you think by formating i may solve the problem?

    Hi!

I formated my computer in the weekend. So far everything seems to work a bit better! The only thing that I didn't manage to do is to partition my hard drive. Can I do it now or is it too late?

    Thanks for your assistance.

OPPS just noted you have recovery CD... This will restore system to ORIGINAL condition... that is all programs, changes, data made will LOST. IS this what you want? Or are there other issues you are trying to resolve?

Assuming you want to go back to FACTORY settings, you need to change BIOS settings so PC boots from CD, INstall recovery disk 1 and boot from it and follow instructions. It "MAY" give you an option to back up data but donot rely on this and back up any data you want BEFORE you start

post back any further questions and/or results

if the HD would not start up themm perhaps it is failing... they dont last forever. However it may be due to a bad file.

have you tried to defragment the drive? Also checking the disk for errors too?

defrag = open my computer, right click on the C drive, properties, tools. you have degrag and check. run degfrag first then check for errors and tick fix error file system and recover bad sectors

HIH and please post back how you go

you can partition your drive now if you want but you need to use a specific program now the OS is loaded. I recommend paragon Partition Manager but it is not free. The 30 day trial may be functional for what you want/need but I dont know for sure.

Some free programs HERE I cannot vouch for any though as I have not used them so be cautious in what you use and do.

Sony desktop vaio computer keeps saying missing operating system

Your operating system is currupted. You will need to repair it or restore it, if your sony desktop came with a recovery/repair cd. If it did, insert the disc, turn on the computer, set boot priority either in your bios (boot options) or the startup screen to dvd/cd rom, and follow instruction. If it didn't come with a recovery/restore disc, you are in trouble, and will need a full windows installation via a windows operating disc.

'USB device not recognised

Hi Peter,

Try this solution. Just follow this step to uninstall and reinstall the USB drivers. I am assuming that you have a Windows OS.

1. click START
2. right click My Computer (an icon of this can also be seen on the desktop)
3. left click Manage
4. Computer Management will appear
5. look for Device Manager and click it
6. on the right panel, you will see Universal Serial Bus controllers
7. expand that by click the plus (+) sign next to that
8. delete everything under that by highlighting each one of it, then on the keyboard, just press delete
9. once finish with everything, just reboot the computer

Let me know if this works.

How to format the desktop if i don't have a recovery CD?

You need to have an operatng system CD in order to put the operating system back on. If you do not have a recovery CD, then you need an OEM version of the operating system that is indicated on the operating system product key sticker usually found on the back or bottom of your computer. Or, you need a regular retail version of the operating system which will include its own product key found on a yellow sticker.

My daughter amilo 2727 crashed, i had to order the media set from siemens but nothing is happening when i insert the recovery disc

Caution: The entire contents of the hard disk including any partitions will be lost.
Note: The following message may appear when disks (CDs/DVDs) are inserted:
"An unidentified program is attempting to access the computer"
"Unidentified publisher"
Confirm this message with "Allow Access" if you are certain of the source
and its origin. This query is intended to protect your operating system and is
generated prior to system files being accessed. For example, it appears
during the installation process for programs and drivers.
4.2.1 Restoring the operating system
1. With the machine turned on. Insert the Product Recovery CD/DVD into the optical
drive.
2. Turn the machine off, wait a moment and then turn it back on.
3. When the prompt "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …" appears on the
screen for the first time, press any key on the keyboard.
.Caution! This message will appear after each restart during the installation
process. Please ignore this message in these cases as the
computer is only booted from CD/DVD once.
4. In the "Install Windows" menu select "Installation Language", "Time and
Currency Format
" and "Keyboard or Input Method", click on "Next" and then on
"Install now".
5. Accept the "Windows Licence Conditions" and click on "Next" to proceed with
the installation.
6. In the "Type of Installation" menu select "User-defined".
7. In the "Where would you like to install Windows" menu, select the partition on
which you would like to install your operating system.
If you would like to install Windows on a specific partition with sufficient storage
capacity, select it and then click on "Next".
If you wish to create a new partition or extend, delete or format an existing one,
click on "Drive options (extended)", select the desired option and click on "Next".
The installation process will start. The hard disk will be wiped and reformatted.
Files from the CD/DVD will copied on to the hard disk and expanded, and functions
and updates installed. This may take a few minutes. The machine will
automatically report a restart.
8. Now follow the on-screen instructions until the "Welcome Screen" appears.
9. Remove the Product Recovery CD/DVD from the optical drive.
To install the drivers, additional software and to restore the online documentation, insert
the Drivers & Utilities CD/DVD supplied into the optical drive.
.
4.2.3 Restoring additional software onto notebooks (drivers, documentation, hot
fixes)
The Drivers & Utilities CD/DVD allows your system's drivers, software and hot fixes to
be installed and restored. The installation and restore can be performed without having
to shut down Windows.
Proceed as follows:
hope this helps- here is the manual address if you need to look at it---please feel free to post more questions as you proceed..
