Question about Televison & Video

We have a Hisense flat screen television (TL 1700). Frequently the on/off button doesn't work. We have to unplug it and plug it back in and that seems to fix the problem temporarily. Any ideas?

It's been left unplugged for more than a day at times. Since it is more than a couple of years old we will try your other solution. Can you tell me where the power supply board is located and how to change the electrolytic caps?

This is caused by a bad signal coming from the the buttons board to the processor on the mainboard. This in turn can be caused by either :
1 - a bad connection to the data cable that joins them - you will have to open the tv and reseat the cables, plug the firmly, or
2 - the power source delivers a lower than needed voltage to the controller of the tv - you will need to test it: take off the back cover , take it out (the power cable plugs into it) and replace the capacitors as explained here

If the problem returns after that you will have to inspect also the mainboard, on which the processor is situated.

It is possible that your set might have been hit by a small power surge, and there is some garbage in the processor and if you leave it unplugged for 40MIN, it will reset back to normal. You were doing the right thing by unplugging the TV, but maybe not long enough for the caps to dissipate, to a low enough voltage so the micro processor will then reset. Also if the TV is more than a couple of years old then the electrolytic caps need change on the power supply board, that can cause the same problem.

Hisense tv stuck on upgrade screen but isn't updating. Says 0% constantly.

Try resetting the set if possible. If no reset button you can also unplug set while it is still turned on. Then push in and hold the power button for a few minutes. Then re plug unit, cross fingers and push power button to see what happens.

If still does it, then something has to be wrong with your main board circuits.

Cheryl, unplug, wait 10 minutes plug back in, if this does not reset it, return for refund or exchange.

Power up problem

The problem is in the relay built into the power supply. It is magneticly sticking into the off position. Unplugging it kills the field and let's it set back to a neutral position. I doubt the relay is serviceable by itself.
Probably need a new power supply.

INPUT GOING CRAZY

It could well be the accumulation of dirt/dust behind the buttons causing them to stick. If you are able to carefully remove the board that the buttons are located on and use a cleaner that will de-grease at the same time. Be sure that everything is dry as can be before re-assembling and then check if the problem persists. If you are not capable of doing this trust a competant technician. Hope this helps.
