Need a bit more info to understand what your problem is. Sounds to me like you don't have windows installed and the hard drive was formatted before you got the PC but not a lot to go on from your description. What has your laptop connection got to do with starting or doing a recovery on your desktop PC. Better post again with some more details

Does it still start XP ok after you push F1. If it does it should be ok to keep using it as it is it's just annoying to have to keep pushing the button each time you turn it on.

To try and fix it if it is too annoying or if it doesn't start windows properly you can try pressing F2 to go into the BIOS setup screen. You have to be very careful if you don't know what you are doing on this screen though as you might cause some other problems. If you go to your hard drive selection on the BIOS screen sometimes changing the detection of the hard drives to auto might help to get rid of the problem. Also if your pc DOESN'T have a 3.5 inch floppy disk drive built in and if one is listed in the BIOS settings the PC might be looking for the floppy drive when it starts and not finding it which could also cause the F1 error to show up. If you do change any settings on the BIOS screen you need to select save and exit in order for your changes to be saved. If you don't it will stay as before next time you start up. Hard to navigate your way around this screen as you need to use the arrow keys and possibly the page up and down and enter or space bar. Read the instructions on the bottom of the page for how to navigate and change the various options. Just take your time and be careful what you do and you should be ok. Hope that will help with your problem.

To log into your BIOS, press the "Boot Option" key. It might be F1, F2 or Delete

My Tashiba Lap Top a45-s150 is corrupt. WINDOWS/SYSTEMS32/CONFIG/SYSTEM. I bought a recovery disc but my computer only goes to this black screen. Help?

For that you need to repair your windows.
Insert recovery disk into cd/dvd rom then when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or del or ALT+F2 key to enter in bios .
Then go to boot menu and set first boot device as cd/dvd rom then save settings and exit.
Then it boor with recovery disk follow the procedure and choose Repair option for repair windows.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

PC Computer keeps restarting on its own. Go through the cycle of checking files and folders and then at the end restarts again. I tried F2, F4, F8 and F10 to no avail. I did try to click on safe mode again...

Ok, if you have either an actuall XP disc, or a company specific recovery disc, (Dell/Toshiba/Acer etc.), then you can run a repair. Turn the system on and enter the Setup screen. This is done by pressing something like F1, F2, or Del, it usually tells you on the bottom left of the screen.

Once you are on the settings screen, look though, and find the tab for Boot Priority. Make sure this is set to your CD/DVD first. Open the CD/DVD tray and put the disc in. Now save your settings and exit. The system will now reboot.

As the system loads, it will come up, "Press any key to boot from CD-ROM......" Press any key, and it will start the disc. Follow the on-screen instructions, either for a Windows Repair, or a Windows Recovery, depending on the disc you are using.

Hope that works for you. If you need help with anything of the above, just let me know and I'll run through it with you.

Regards
