Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

There was appx. 55 min. of battery left and I only needed to set up my windows live messenger acct. I turned the laptop on, waited for it to boot . While it never completely booted up, it did do a Norton back up that said it was complete. Then the computer locked up and nothing would work although it stayed on. The wireless mouse nor the laptop would do anything. I tried plugging it in and it did not show charging. I can't check anything on the laptop since it does nothing. I am currently trying to let its battery go down by itself and then charge back up. I am using my desktop for this question.

At least you have a backup in there, somewhere!

Laptops are very stable normally but don't boot up if there is a device in the USB slot or a CD/DVD in the drive or sometimes when the battery gets to s critical level.
If it still refuses to POST, remove the AC Adapter, remove the battery and remove the hard drive.
Power the unit up without the hard drive and it should complete POST and complain that there is no hard drive. If that doesn't work remove AC adapter, ensure battery is disconnected and remove hard drive and RAM. Try again. If it still doesn't work, you have a mother board fault and it needs a service centre. www.Toshiba.com will help you out.
If it does work at one of the options, when you have closed the laptop down, replace the RAM first and test, then the Hard Drive.
Hope this fixes your problem.

Can i ask wad is SP3? i was having the same problem, it say tat Signing in to Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. And the Error code...

Hello,
Try this.. All u have to do is: uncheack the "remember me" and the "remember my p@ssword" thingy and re-type ur "username" and "p@ssword" again, And click "sign in". WAIT... For about 2,5 min. Then a new window will pop-up, and there will be a button saying "Troubleshooter", Click on that button, and then another window will pop-up saying "Windows Live Messenger Connection TroubeShooter" You will then see in that window, a list of "Test Results" There will be listed a list that will have a list of stuff wich u need to have running good to make windows live messenger work. Slowly yet fastly you will see next to each iteam will apear a "check mark" or a "warning sign". Now the fixing part: When all of the list has a symbole next to it, then u can see wich stuff is working fine and wich have problems, if, There's more then one wich has a "warning sign" next to it thats fine. then when all the test results have a symbole next to them click "Repair" ( if one of the iteams has a "warning sign" next to it ) if not then click "restart" if so, then click the button then. wait.. 1,2 min. and when its finished close the window and u should see that ur windows messenger is trying to log in again wait and there u go!!! TIP: Key Ports is the most common problem.

Hello, it looks like you use an XP system on a Mac isn't it? Then you are using boot camp or parallels to boot on windows...
Something you can do is use aMsn on Mac OS X that supports webcams and all kinds of messenger accounts.
you will probably find what you need here:

My built in web cam

See section C. Windows Live Messenger in the info below.

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: You audio and video should work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

Boot problem thinkpad r50e

Your PC may be doing a complete memory check, this does take time although your 1 minute boot time might make some of us jealous.
Check your BIOS settings to see if you have a 'Fast Boot' option. If it does, make sure you are using it. It then will make only a cursory check of memory and it is probably OK otherwise you would have other symptoms that would let you know.

Labtop does not turn on

Try this; Disconnect from the AC outlet rmove the dc plug from the jack. Remove the Battery and wait for 5 mins and plug in the AC-DC adaptor without the battery. If the Laptop runs, then wait for the Windows to totally boot up and while running try to put back the battery and observe if it still charges. If it won't still boot up repaet the procedure and before connecting the power remove the memory modules first and install 1 memory at a time.

Hope this helps.
