Question about Linksys WUSB300N Wireless Adapter

1 Answer

Linksys WUSB300N, cannot install driver

Help pls, I have an AMD Athlon 2000 with WinXP SP2 Professional (Spanish) and bought in Argentina a wireless WUSB300N that says it works with WinXP SP2 or above.
The CD that comes with the device works fine, the initial software is downloaded without problems, then it asks to plug the device in and click Next, and here is when trouble start, it just does not associate any driver with the device.
I tried a dozen times (a dozen!), and I did also go to the Linksys website and downloaded driver from there, but nothing, nothing, nothing, I am frustrated with Linksys.
Anyone able to help? Will greatly appreciate....
Thanks in advance for your assistance

Hello Latoof, thanks so much for responding so fast!
I can confirm I am using THOSE instructions that you mentioned above, (the process never goes beyond Step 4).
I tried 3 different USB ports.
I did uninstall the software that came with the card every time, and I also tried without uninstalling as last resource.
I do hear the "ding" sound every time I try it.

I did also tried the "uninstall", "update driver", etc. from the device manager.....the other comment I can make here is that initially after plugging it in, if you go to Device Mgr, the device shows in the Network Adapters list.....BUT after running the software that comes with the card and following the step 4 of THOSE instructions, the device dessapears from the Network Adapters section and goes to the Universal Serial Bus Controller tree (it shows as "common USB" or something similar at the bottom of the list).
I will give a new try now without using the installation software and updating the driver manually just in case.....
Do not know what else to do, except trying to install the card in another PC (asking friends to let me do it).
Anything else that could come to your mind, I would greatly appreciate it, I thought Linksys was a good brand so I paid extra to get their quality, Could I have made a mistake??

Apologies, frustration is blossoming, and I shouldn't pass it along...

    Kind regards,

Latoof, I lost the battle. Had to get it working today, so after trying all the things you kindly suggested, and still failing, decided to try another option. I tried all you suggested and even more, but nothing.

I finally tested the wusb300n in another PC (old Pentium IV WinXP Home SP3) and it took another path and re-wired the rooms taking the ADSL connection to the office with the PC that failed, moved the modem and wifi router over there and connected that PC through an ethernet cable, while installing the wifi USB device on the other machine.
Now I have 2 PCs and a notebook working fine sharing the internet conection as I needed initially.

I am still intrigued on how on earth the wusb cannot be recognized by the PC that started all these trail of notes.
Let me thank you again and again for promptness and meaningful proposed solutions. Will continue to use fixya in the future because of this.

Hope I could be of any help to people too.

    Kind regards from Argentina.

Are you followin THESE instructions?

have you uninstalled the software that came with card?

With the card installed, go to device manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers tree and see if there are any ? or ! devices listed there

Also check under the network adaptors tree for same thing.

If there are any devices with either ! or ? highlight them and in the menu across the top select "action" and uninstall.

Do you hear the "ding" that usually occurs whemn a USB device is plugged in? if not this may indicate a connection issue

Try all USB ports on PC. Perhaps there is either a bad USB port or the connection is not good. Try connecting card via a USB extention cable (male to female) as it is possible that the shape of the card or the PC case means that the USB is not incerting far enough for good connection.

please post back results so I may assist further if required

try THIS method. It shows a different card in the pictures but give it a go.

NOTE: Do not run the Wireless USB Network Adapter Setup Wizard. If the Setup Wizard runs automatically after the Setup CD-ROM has been inserted, click Exit.

    THIS may be useful too

I want graphic drivers for AMD Athlon XP 1700+ running windows XP professional SP2..... please help me.

There is not enought information to suggest which motherboard you have. Take a look at your motherboard for the board identifier. You can also go to and download a free board analyser. This program will give you the actual idenfier for the motherboard as well as other useful information for your hardware and software.
Once you identify the motherboard, go to
to get the drivers.

I've been reformated my notebook and install the win7. My linksys wusb300n worked very well wit the win vista but now it can work wit win7. I need some asistance for that, please!

Have you installed the appropriate drivers? Okay here you go: goto
search for the drivers and see whether this device is compatible with windows 7. When you find the drivers download and install them.
I hoped that you did not install any drivers for this device previously and if you even did install first uninstall those drivers and then re-install the freshly downloaded drivers.
Hope this works!

I have linksys wusb300n..i want driver is work in xp but is not works in vista

Hi, if you go to then in the 'Select your version' dropdown box, choose version 1.0 > you will then be shown the vista driver download.

To install it you have to go to computer manager (right click 'Computer' - choose Manage), then click on Device Manager. Locate the Linksys WUSB300n adapter in Networkadapters, Right Click it and select "Update Driver Software, then choose "Browse my Computer.....", then choose "Let me Pick from a list......" browse to the location of the driver you just downloaded and extracted, it will say its not vista certified, but if u want to try it, you'll have to accept that*......!!

I found it then works best when the wireless access point is on channel 11.

If you still have problems, i have found that using the driver that windows update finds, along with setting my wireless access point to band: 20mhz (instead of auto or 40mhz) allows my WUSB300N to work - albeit at at only upto 150mbps.

*A Final word of warning however, I am running Media Centre on the Vista machine, and i have a LInksys Media Centre Extender, i found when using the Vista Driver from the Linksys website, whenever i connected the Media Centre extender to the Vista PC, it crashed the Vista PC. :-(
