Question about Sony BRAVIA KDL-40V3000 Television

1 Answer

We have a Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 flat screen television. About 6 months ago, the screen started displaying white, green and black vertical lines and dots. This continued for a few weeks and then the picture came right again. The problem came back again this week. The entire screen is covered in the white, green and black vertical lines and dots. The picture is very bad and it is hard to make out the image. Occasionally for a short time it is better with only some small white dots showing. Does anyone know what the problem is and how much it will cost to fix?

It's a connection inside the TV that's faulty. It could be as simple as reseating the ribbon cables that connect the control board to the glass display. Or it could be that the fault is on the board and needs to be replaced. The fact that the problem comes and goes should tell you it's fixable.

SOURCE: Vertical green line on screen

If your set is a plasma, this can be one of two problems : either there is a loose connection (one of many, many connections) between the plasma screen and the driver board, or one of the transistor devices has blown. Try GENTLY applying pressure to the opposite ends of the TV to give it a subtle "twist" (please be careful!). Sometimes moving the set to a different location will produce the same effect. If it's still under warranty, call your dealer. Vertical stripes are a common fault with plasma technology I'm afraid! :-( Next time, go for LCD!

It is most likely the cabinet setteling as it is cooling off. Nothing uncommon with all the plastic that is used in TV's.

Also I have a Sony Bravia and it clicks while it is on as well. I read that forum and some people said to disconnect the cable box for 10 sec. and then some said it was the heat from the summer.. i don't know.. I just turned my tv off and then back on and it stoped. I read this is happening with all kinds of TVs....

Hi,

This is a fault with the panel or one of the surrounding boards, you need to contact a Sony service center as there is no easy solution.

Just to warn you, it will be costly....!

Thanks

Half the screen is black

I think its either the X-sus or Y-Sus Boards which control the display. These are 2 boards with heatsinks on them, lots of capacitors and are at either edge of the screen.

It was actually a problem with the satellite feed, not the TV. Dish Network was zoomed in, hitting the asterisk button on the dish remote fixed the problem.
