Question about Hunter Fan Company 5/1/1 Programmable Thermostat

Open Question

I have a Hunter 44422 thermostat and I turned up the temp and I noticed that the heater came on but it would not turn the blower on. Is it a problem with the thermostat as the fans on the blower do work but it doesn't click over to make it blow.

SOURCE: low battery on hunter 44422

I have the same unit, 44422. The base has four clips, two on the top and two on the bottom. The front portion is clip-on. Try to push on the base's bottom and pull off the front portion, like opening a book. After the battery replacement you will have to reset the unit trough the little reset hole. Otherwise, the ''LOW BATTERY" will not go away. Yes, you will have to reprogram the unit.

well the ac compressor will come on if you have it in defrost mode,if heater is blowing cold ,after you just had thermostat replace ,you could possibly have air in system.now if your heater motor is not working which is called the blower motor under dash it could be the resistor that controls it also these rigs have been known for wire harness problems at heater control unit and the blower motor connector.good luck,mike

Heater problems

Could be one of several things. Your car has automatic climate control that takes air temp and coolant temp into consideration in controlling the heater components.
The heater blower will not come on until the heater warms up. So the engine thermostat could be faulty and the engine is taking a longer time to warm up.
The electronic controller adjusts blower speed. And the blower motor could be going bad.
You may have to get a shop to take a look at it - someone with the books and tools to test the system.

Is there a setting on the thermostat for Auto or Fan? If so, make sure it is in the Auto setting. You will have a contactor that turns on the elements and a relay for the fan. Follow the wiring diagram to see which relay energizes the fan then unplug it to see if the fan stops.

Hunter Thermostat fan won't turn off

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, I am inclined to suspect 3 possibilities:
  • sticking relay contacts (if used) (a possibility, least likely);
  • dusty thermal sensor/switch for the fan (likely);
  • time delay. design feature, will power down the fan only after a certain period that the heater has turned off. This is to dissipate residual heat not only on the heater but on the immediate surroundings of the heater element (most likely).
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

The outdoor unit has failed in some way. This is probably not the thermostats fault. You can check the breaker for the outdoor unit by turning it off and then back on. If this does not work, the problem is most commonly one of the following issues. All of which should be done by a professional because the danger of electrocution.

1) Bad Start/Run capacitor
2) Bad Compressor
3) Bad Exhaust fan motor
4) Combination of some or all of the above.
