I dnt have start disk for 1710 laptop how can I rest with out it

Usually you have to make your own start disk. The way you make a disk is click on the start menu, go to all programs, and look for your PC manufacturer then click on it then see the menu options such as "create recovery disk" or "recovery management". Choose the option and it will instruct you to do the rest. You might need any where to 3 to 5 blank cd's.

Operating system not found on my laptop wot does that mean?

Hello,
Operating system not found simply means that the laptop cannot detect that there's an operating system installed on your laptop.
It's either the hard disk got disabled in BIOS or the installed windows is corrupted. You might need to check in BIOS if the hard disk is still detected. If it is, make sure that on the Boot options, hard disk is selected as the first boot option. If it is, then that means that the windows installed on your laptop is corrupted therefore you might need to install windows using the recovery discs of your laptop.
By the way, to go to BIOS start tapping on F10 once the laptop starts to boot up.
Let me remind you that by doing this it will erase everything on the hard disk.
Good luck!

Hi,

Hi you should keep on tapping F8 while booting so that an option will appear to select safe mode. or if you have a recovery CD restart the computer then press F2 or Delete to access the Bios Page look for Boot Options and change the first boot priority to your CDROM restart the computer and just follow the instruction on the recovery disk.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a SONY Viao VGN-NR220E laptop with Vista home premium.I was trying to restore the laptop to the factory condition, but after i selected the option to restore to factory defaults, nothing happened...

Hello,
Some of the solutions that you can try are
1 - Boot in Safe Mode....switch on the notebook, press F8 after machine starts.....if you get the options, chose Safe Mode and then once u get into the Desktop panel switch off and switch on again...now let it boot in normal mode.....
2 Else you have to have the option of loading the defaults from the rescue disk in the above process, insert the Resuce disk that you created and start.
3 The final option is to Reformat the Disk and install the WIN XP / Vista OS...the best is install WinXP...to do that insert the WinXP disk and switch on the machine again....follow on screen instructions
Do a partition of your disk, Format and install XP in C: and leave D: or E: to save your critical Data files....

Toshiba A 45-S150: How to boot from external dvd drive?

Remove the disk-drive from the laptop, and connect it to another computer.
Copy all the files from the recovery-media onto the disk-drive.
Reinstall the disk-drive into your laptop.
Run the recovery software from where you copied the files onto the disk-drive.

My laptop will not start up

When you say "None of these options work..." do you mean that it will NOT go into Safe Mode? If not what happens if you hold the F12 key and get to your Boot Options screen. Put your System Recovery disk in the DVD drive, boot from this disk and do the Repair option.

It sounds like you have an OEM disk of Windows XP from the manufacturer which will not always run as a recovery disk in these situations.

You have two main options; -
  1. If you are still under warranty for the laptop call the manufacturer explan the problem and ask them to send you a working non-OEM copy of the OS/ recovery disk
  2. Borrow a copy of a genuine Windows disk (same version of the OS, e.g. if it is Windows XP Home) and use it to access the Recovery console to run the repair option. Then of course return the disk to your friend.

try the f10 or f12 recovery option, manufacturers rarely ship the laptops with disks these days, and there should be an option on boot to make the cd's that you need. If not- you will have to contact acer and ask them how to make the recovery/boot cd's
