taking the battery out and letting the camera sit for a few minutes batteryless, then putting it back in. This can have the same effect as resetting a problem

if it does not work the gold contacts get dirty

please clean the contacts on the lens and the camera.

    this can help you.

Error 99 is the 'catchall' error number

    To summarize:
    1. Turn off the camera.
    2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
    3. Reattach your lens.
    4. Turn on the camera.
    5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.

If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera should be serviced.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

Error 99 is many things. Mostly on the D-Rebel. It's usually the lens.
Make sure camera is off before installing/inserting/attaching the things from the steps i gave you..If these steps do not help then, attach the lens and turn it on. (make sure you put it on
correctly). before you do that, make sure the contacts on the lens
    are clean.

If you still face the problem then it is a lens error.Again, please make sure the contacts on the lens are clean. And if this doesn't help you will have to get this repaired.

    Goodluck..

Canon 350D and Sigma 100 300 compatability?

Something is bad with the lens or it needs to have an upgraded circuit put it to make it compatible (if it is older). Usual cause of lens failure is the aperture unit. Almost impossible to get Sigma parts these days.

Where is the macro setting?

There isn't one. To take macro pictures you can use a macro lens, use extension tubes, use a bellows unit, or use other close-focusing gear. It's the lens that controls how close you can focus, not the camera.

If you'd like any more information, please feel free to ask.

There is a minimal focusing distance for all lenses. If you move closer to the subject than that distance then the camera won't focus on it. Check you lens manual for minimal focusing distance. It is 11 inches for Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM, for example.

Simga makes lenses to fit several different makes of camera bodies including Canon and Nikon. I'm assuming your Sigma lens has a Nikon mount, if so there are some adapters, but they may not work like you want - not all functions may work properly thru the adapter. For best results you should return or sell the lens and get one with the Canon mount.

Check you exposure compensation and make sure it's not set above 0. Also take a peek at your LCD brightness level. If it's set high, everything looks overexposed when it's really not.

there is a defective flexwire inside the lens or unfortunately the opening or fstops motor is defective. flexwire is easy to repair but a replacement motor is not available or hard to find, (the magnet inside the motor is slowly disintegrating causing it to stall)
