Question about HP Computers & Internet

2 Answers

My HP laptop suddenly stopped working - mid use - a few days before Christmas. Despite disconnecting / reconnecting the power cable and trying to turn it back on in both modes, all that flashes (briefly) is the middle of 3 light indicators on the bottom left of the laptop (looks like the 'power' indicator light). Have absolutely no idea what has happened and would value some advice (preferably in non-tech speak!) as I need this machine for work next week. Thanks in anticipation, Eileen.

You have a couple of options here:

Remove the battery and the AC adaptor, press the power buttin in and hold for 30 seconds, release, reconnect the battery and AC power adaptor and try again. If this does not work, check the output voltage on the jack that goes into the laptop from the adaptor with a multimeter (If you are not technically minded, ask someone to do this for you). Set the DV volt scale of the meter to 20 volts and connect one probe to the inside of the jack and one to the outside, if you do not get a reading, the AC adaptor has failed. If you do, you can eliminate this as a problem and assume that the power is getting to the laptop.

Check the tightness of the jack connection to the laptop, if it feels "sloppy" the port is on its way out and will need replacing before arcing damages the charger board.

I do feel however, that.. and I'm going to stick my neck out and say this is a DV or G series laptop, that the motherboard is damaged. Usually the display goes first then the rest of the laptop. This is due to a very bad cooling system on the laptop and complicated by a build up of dust and fluff in the cooling components all of which kill the chip.

If this is the case, then any repair will probebly be expensive

When this happened was your laptop hot to the touch on the underside? it's possible it may have overheated and ate itself, pull the battery off for about 60 seconds, and reinstall. then try again.

Press the "Power" button to turn off the printer. Wait a few seconds and then power it back on.

Power off the printer again if you are still running into problems and disconnect the power cable from the AC power. Wait a few seconds and reconnect the power cable. Power on the printer. This simple procedure resets the printer back to the default factory settings. Move to the next step if the reset does not work. Select "Setup" on the CD and select "Remove HP Desk Jet 932c. Verify that the USB connection is fully inserted in the back of the printer itself. If all is well there, try to think if you've run any updates on your laptop recently, or installed any new software that could be conflicting. If yes, try removing the new software or recent updates, and try a test print. If this still does not work, try disconnecting the printer, powering down your machine, starting it back up and then reconnecting the printer to the USB port. Sometimes you have have a glitch in the USB port that causes your computer to stop recognizing a device seemingly out of nowhere. If none of the above seems to help, it might be as simple as a USB cable that's become faulty. Hope this helps!

Printer stopped working after I cancelled a print job

Turn off your printer and completely unplug the USB cable (from both the printer and the computer). Next check if the stopped document or the later documents are in the print spooler queue. If you can cancel all documents from the queue, do so. Otherwise: from Start Run (or the command prompt)
type: net stop spooler [enter]
then type: net start spooler [enter]

This works in XP and older MS Operating Systems but I've never tried it in Vista.

If you only enter the first command, you need to reboot the computer and then take a long coffee break after logging in before trying to print again.

Notebook cannot power on

get multiple advice from different technicians... changing motherboard in a laptop is not cost effective. check your warranty and send it back to manufacturer.

do this first... disconnect all power source --take out the battery from your laptop, disconnect the power cable... leave it for 5 minutes or longer and reconnect the power source and turn on the laptop. "if this works, don't go back to that technician that says change the motherboard"

if this doesn't work and and you get the same recommendation to change the motherboard from other technician... it is more cost effective to get a new laptop. if you replace the motherboard, you will have to pay the shipping, service and the parts = new laptop (new warranty)
