Unlikely to be an issue with the port controller, unless it is happening on all the sata ports. Sata cables are easily damaged, therefore I would suggest in the 1st instance, changing the sata cable and checking the connection at the hard drive end

Remember always downwards compatible as a rule of thumb. You may not be able to connect a SATA 3 drive into a SATA 2 port.
Ports 2 and 3 are SATA 2.

My sata has been removed fram my motherboard, only the yellow colour plastic, but the seven pins are their in a motherboard so give me the solution, please fast

Hi shaqi0078666

Meaning now,
pin SATA on SATA port for SATA ports left and you were broken.
what about the other SATA port?
if there is, use the other SATA port for your SATA and SATA cut the pin is left, do not let it come into contact with another pin.
If you do not have SATA ports. you must try to improve by changing the SATA port on the sata port. or you can use sata to ide converter to install a SATA hard disk to your motherboard..

My sata port not working compaq sr1105il

I assume your refering to an External E-sata port? If so... open the side of the case up and follow the cable from that E-sata port to the other end. If its not connected to the Motherboard in a Sata port.. you'll need to connect it. Its a simple plug and it only goes in one way. Make sure the computer is OFF before doing any of this.

Sata isnot reconized in bios nor will it install xp on a sata drive it starts to load all files then when to enter to set up xp home sp-3 the board is new been shelved then it gives windows cannot be...

Look up the specs. on the mb and find out if it supports sata1 or sata2 drives.
Your motherboard should have four sata ports and you may want to change to another port.
Also, you may need to format this sata drive, booting from the ide drive. Windows takes a long time to format but may be the only answer.
Last, make sure your bios settings are sata as raid.
Hope this works for you, its a pain.

The universally accepted HDD is the IDE, why are you trying to make it with a SATA? With a IDE you will avoid all the troubles. Yes! SATArequires a change in the BIOS. We can help you do the change, if you know how to do it. Playing with BIOS can cause the entire MB to burn out and destroy itself.

Trying to put a hard drive into a working computer

I am assuming you mean a Dimension 5100 (desktop) and not an Inspiron 55100 (laptop). The Dimension uses SATA drives and as such your second, working system will need an SATA port to connect to. You should take the data cable from the non-working system with the drive since, if there is an extra SATA port on your working system, it will more than likely not have a cable attached to it. Each SATA port only supports the connection of a single drive. There may not be an additional SATA port on the working machine, in which case you're SOL (unless it uses the same HAL as the other, but that's another story).
