Question about Dell Ethernet Card Network Adapter

1 Answer

Hello..I have aproblem with dell 5231 s inspiron. I have new modem with at@t. Uplifted my internet connection wire into mycomputer and the internet network LAN adapter was stated as missing or failed. I talked to dell. And thy said that one of my network adapters was missing all of a sudden. Every time I plug my computer into the modem a message pops up PLEASE PLUG IN LAN CABLE or something similar. Now what is the next step. Can't I just download another network adapter from another computer and install it on a disk and put in my computer? What do you reccommend? Chris. If it is a physical problem and your network adapter failed, you can install something like this
10 100 1000 Gigabit Desktop PCI Adapter
If you are not handy with a screwdriver and you have wireless, you can use something like this
Linksys AE6000 Wireless AC Mini USB Adapter

Did you reformat the hard drive? You may not have loaded the drivers for your network adapter. (In that case, your sound probably won't work either, and possibly other devices.)
If you check in the device manager (see here), you'll see it is disabled or not installed.
You need to locate your Drivers cd, or download them from Dell and install the drivers for your network adapter, reboot your system, and it should appear in the device manager and function. Here's a basic troubleshooter that will help you to sort this out, and here's a more advanced version in case you run into other problems. This excellent tutorial will help you to update the drivers for your system.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Yes, you do not need a modem. You connect a LAN cable from the computer to the DSL modem to access your Internet Service Provider.

Please connect your computer directly to your DSL / Cable modem and check if your internet is working fine, if not turn off your modem and restart after a minute or two.

Now check again if the internet is working by directly connecting your laptop to your modem. if it is not working, contact ISP. if it is working, turn on your router and check if your wireless connection is working.

If you wireless connection is still not working, please check if you have plugged the modem to the internet / WAN port behind your router.

Also try logging to your router page (refer to manual for procedure) and try changing the wireless channel.

Your Internet Service Provider will have provided a DSL-adapter to you.
Connect one 4-wire cable from the adapter to the telephone wall-jack.
Connect one (8-wire) Ethernet cable from the adapter to the network port on your Dell.

You have to configure Internet Connections Sharing on the PC which has a dial-up service.
1. Click Start - Settings - Control Panel - Network Connections, right click on dial-up.
2. Clik on Properties, click on Advanced tab.
3. Under Internet Connection Sharing, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box

After that you must connect the other pc to this one via network cable.
If you don'y have network adapters you have to buy them.
