Right speaker quit working after 6 months

swop the speakers overs this will tell you weather it is the speaker or the amp. if the speaker then it has blown or the crossover unit has blown. the crossover unit splits the signal to the bass /middle and top frequencies. if you want an easy way out after you have checked the speakers/amp by swoping them just go and buy a new pair but make the sure they are the same impedance as the old pair as you can easily damage the amp

Do these speakers work better with an amp? I am playing them now and they sound muffled using a regular shelf system

No models given, so a guess is what you get.

If your shelf system is not producing sufficient clean audio power you'll get distortion, which can kill a speaker faster than excessive clean power. Muffling is something else altogether. Are the tweeters working?

Can't get wharfedale melton 2 tweeter to work. Looked inside cabinet and need advice on internal wiring please. These are very old but one works perfectly and the 12'' bass driver on the problem speaker is...

The tweeter has burned out and cannot be salvaged. I also own a pair of (ex) Melton 2s. In the beginning Wharfedale were good at supplying spares (see www.wharfedale.co.uk for contact info and advice). A few years ago after my cat destroyed the 12 inch unit in one, i invested in new insides, including state of the art 12 inch woofers, 4 inch mid range and 1inch tweeters with a good 3 way crossover. The cabinet is great so consider asking a techie friend to do this for you. Please don't just cut out and connect to amp speaker wires! You will get terrible sound and risk ruining both amp and speakers! Best regards Karl (karl@simpson.nom.fr)

I think I blew out the woofer...low frequency rumbling...is that something that can be easily switched out?

The woofer would only blow if it was overloaded with too much signal. The common cause of this connecting a speaker of lower power than the amp or ohms than it. The simple way to cut out rumble is at the amp by reducing the bass, however most amps will cut all the bass and not what you want. Another way is a filter designed to cutt bass or low sounds. However your best bet is to use a Graphic Equalizer to control the tone, most have a 31khz control which will cutt the rumble you describe, but keep the wanted bass sound.

Broken bass unit

(Please read the whole thing before opening anything)
Loose connections inside either the receiver or the subwoofer. Open the subwoofer case (the screen should pop off, if there is no screen there is usually some hidden screws somewhere) and see if there are any wires that have been separated. The problem with subwoofers (more common in car audio) is that they will vibrate so much that when you have something meant to have a lot of bass without the subwoofer and then you add the subwoofer to it, it's overpowering it which causes it to vibrate harder; seperating the cord that attaches the fabric of the speaker itself to the metal harness.
You can do one of 2 things:
1) Souder the wires back together using a heat sink.
2) Get allagator clips, cut them down pretty short and just extend the length of the wires a little bit giving it more bouncing room. Caution with this because if you dont cover the clips and they touch the metal frame, you will have no sound. Electric tape them once they're on.
If nothing is seperated, check the input jacks from the speaker box frame to the speaker itself. Loose connections are common for the crimp on kind.
Also a good idea: if you really (I mean really) want bass and you have no neighbors within a 1/4 mile radius of your house, have a friend who is getting rid of his car woofers to hook you up an AC outlet from the power source, and then use the red and white cables going into the amp to come from your receiver. I've seen this and it's great when watching a movie or playing games. Surrounding people hate it. (Wonder why?)

LCD Monitor's Audio Is Not Working

First.. have you installed the drivers for the sound card.. would check that first.. if that is ok.. then check the output of the computer with another pair of speakers or a pair of headphones.. additionally i would check the speakers in the monitor by connecting to another source.. such as an mp3 player or portable cd player..

Amp on but no bass

1st make sure the speakers are not bad, check th eimpedance with a multimeter, the voice ciols should read 3.9 to 4.3 ohm's. if any of your subs are below this most likly the subs are bad. if they are ok make sure the ground for the amp is good. now the last thing is the amp. try another pair of speakers, even if it's smaller ones, just make sure they are 4 ohm speakers, keep the vol. very low during your test. if the other speakers do not work then have your amp serviced or replaced. good luck
