I have the same issue with a 5515 as Kiran except mine occured after the hardrive crashed. Replaced it with a new hardrdrive and went to install the re-installation disk. Not only do I egt the bootmgr is missing but I am also getting a HDD password error! When I enter the password it sends me back to the bootmgr missing press ALT CTR DEL and the cycle begins again.

I forgot to add that it will not read the disk either Gives me something about the internet cable is unplugged and reruns the check and gives the same error over and over without any prompts and still will not read the Installation disk.

On top of that I think my installation CD is corrupted lol. It loads files and a black box opens on the screen. It will not let me type in it but after closing it it tells me thatit failed and restarting the laptop. So frustrating lol. If I coul just fix one issue I am sure the others will fall into place eventually. I did manage to download windows 7 from my compaq onto it and got to the screen where I had a logo but it wasn't compatible So I know my hardrive isn't shot.

Hi there,

We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

To resolve this problem, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented.
Method 1: Repair the BCD store by using the Startup Repair option You can use the Startup Repair option in the Windows Recovery Environment to repair the BCD store. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer. 2. Press a key when you are prompted. 3. Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next. 4. Click Repair your computer. 5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next. 6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Startup Repair. 7. Restart the computer. Method 2: Rebuild the BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool If the previous method does not resolve the problem, you can rebuild the BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt. 7. Type Bootrec /RebuildBcd , and then press ENTER. • If the Bootrec.exe tool runs successfully, it presents you with an installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type Yes . A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully. • If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order in which they are presented. Press ENTER after each command. Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old Bootrec /rebuildbcd 8. Restart the computer.

Hope this helps.
Cheers!!

How can i get past an error reading BOOTMGR is missing?

Hi.

To recover the system from the hidden partition follow the instructions below.

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the left Alt, and the F10 keys.
  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the Acer eRecovery Management application has loaded, select your restore type.
  5. Read the notice, and then click Next when you are ready.
  6. Click Next to begin the restore process. The restore can take anywhere fom 10 minutes up to an hour.
  7. Once the restore is complete your computer will reboot. Upon rebooting it will load Windows and start installing your drivers and software. Your computer will reboot several times during this process. After everything is complete your computer will be like it was when you first purchased it.

This sounds like a hard drive failure, try your recovery disc if available, if no change! have the hardware checked for possible replacement.

How to fix this error "BOOTMGR IS MISSING". Every-time I reboot my laptop, it always say to press CTR ALT DLT to restart. I did that, and seems to me that this error is keep coming...

Try this:
1. First you need Vista Recovery Disk .iso file. Can be downloaded here: [redacted]
2. Then you probably need image burning program. I prefer CD Burner XP >http://cdburnerxp.se/download.php
3. When you have installed CD Burner XP, start program, choose "Burn ISO image" and browse to Vista Recovery Disk.iso file.
4. When program has finished to burn ISO image, put CD into PC with "boot mgr is missing" problem.
5. Re-start PC, press F2 2-3 times, go into BIOS Setup Utility, choose Boot, move CD/DVD unit up to the first line with F6. Press F10 , choose YES.
6. Click this link to find out what to press when PC boots from CD:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fixing-bootmgr-is-missing-error-while-trying-to-boot-windows-vista/
